Biddy Basketball Begins
By: ALEX BASBAS
Coming off the extremely popular season last year, Bedford Biddy Basketball looks to make its big return, and excitement is in the air. While some faces are gone from the league, many of the stars from last year are returning. Perhaps the most credible are returning champions Andy Burns and Adam Coughlin. As co-captains last year, Burns and Coughlin led the Lakers to a 7-2 regular season record and were tied for 1st place with the Bulls. They went on to beat the Bulls in the championship. This year, the competition looks to deny them the first repeat ever. They are up for the challenge. Co-captains Brian Cameron and Kevin Harty hope to lead their team, the Blazers, to a Biddy Title. They have a considerable advantage to begin with, in having what is arguably the most talented pair of players before the draft even gets underway. Brian Cameron showed his skill last year on John Zhar's team, the Celtics. As just a sophomore, Cameron ran the offense as the starting point guard. Harty, a newcomer to the league, is said to be Varsity material. "We better get no snow days because we are taking everyone to school!" said the confident Cameron. Brad Cole and Rob Rist bring their physical play to the courts one more time, this time as co-captains of their own team. Cole's football-player physique gives this team the physical superiority underneath the hoop. Brad was on the 7-2, runner-up Bulls last year and played a key role in each win by providing the team with some much-needed size. Two of the best returning Centers from last year have teamed up. Andy Brown and David Montemerlo throw their massive height into the competition. Montemerlo was the starting center for the championship Lakers team last year. Brown was the starting center for the Pacers. This year, as the T-Wolves, the "twin towers" hope to overpower the inside game of any opponent. With the drafting of a good point guard, this team could easily win the championship. While these teams all have a good start with their captains, the draft will determine how well these teams do. Each of these teams will hope to pick up some of the names from last year. Corey Parker amazed the crowds with his incredible talent last year on the Lakers, and Tom Anderson will no doubt light up the three-pointers. And it never hurts to have the commissioner on your side.
