My Shabby Chic Creations

My husband and I like to dig up old bottles, hence we have lots of them in our home. Most of these blue bottles were dug up by us. Notice the old insulators on the ends of the curtain rod.
I found this old beat up book case at a yard sale. It had a great top on it and a cool drawer at the bottom. So I took it home and made this drawer out of it. The hardware is original to it.
This window is one of many I salvaged from an old house in our town that was being demolished. I hated to see the windows go down with it. I added a hand made hanky and some ribbon tied on a large heart locket. I left the window the way it was with all its original hardware and only sanded it slightly. I hung it in the archway between my kitchen and my dinningroom with old aligator hinges.
This is an old child’s cupboard my husband gave me for Christmas one year. I took the top doors off and put the four latches on for effect. I then mismatched the knobs and it became a spice cupboard by my stove. To attach it on the wall in the corner I used mismatched hinges of varying sizes. Most of the stuff on this shelf came from my grandparent’s garage.
This window came out of my dad’s garage and I did nothing but sand it a bit and add the curtains and greenery. Notice the barbed wire wreath. Be careful if you decide to make one it can be very painful. You can’t see it well but the middle hook on the shelf is an old water tap I found at my house when we moved here.
I found both this doorknob and the knob plate out in the desert. I decided just to make a small accent piece.
Any small drawer can be used to store books or other items under a table or on top of a shelf.
My husband found this shelf which was originally a clock on top and shelves underneath in the dumpster. I got it and cleaned it up painted and sanded it add some hardware here and there and viola!
This fireplace grate came out of my grandparent's home when they switched to gas instead of logs. It has been sitting in their back yard for years. On the front it says “Spanish Fork Foundry” Spanish Fork is the town I live in now.
I bought this buffet at a garage sale. It was dusty blue and was fine, but I just had to redesign it. I had some old newspaper from 1959 and decided to decoupage the ads from it onto the front, sides and top. It turned out great I think. I have gotten lots of compliments on it. The hardware is original to the piece.
This wall hutch was actually the top part of a little girl’s desk; I got at a second hand store. I dry brush painted it and then sanded it. I added the bottom shelf, which originally would have been the desk that it sat on.
Here you see an old light bulb I set into an overturned insulator. The scale is filled with doorknobs and bottle flats all of which we dug up ourselves. Also here is a top view of the news papered buffet.
This mirror was mine when I was a kid. The plant holder is actually an old tray that would have been in the berth on a train for holding personal items. The miner’s lantern hanging from it I dug up myself.
Most of these bottles we dug up ourselves.
When we are out digging I always find beautiful glass. Of coarse most of it is broken into tiny pieces. So I decided to take an old cupboard door and do a mosaic on it with some of the glass we have found.
The shadow box was made with an inexpensive plastic frame that I sanded to make it look like stained barn wood. I painted the original backboard white and then added little things that my husband and I have dug up over the years.
This is my second hand rose wall, and Im sure you see why. The things here we have gotten from many different places.
This is a view of the 5-window divider screen I made. The windows came from the house that was torn down in our town. It is one of my hardest projects. I painted and sanded each window and then hinged them together accordion style. Then added all the original hardware back to it. It is also attached to the wall with a hinge so it won’t fall on any animals or kids.
Front view of same screen.
I fell in love with this old iron headboard that my mother in law gave to us and knew I just had to do something with it. I love the brass ball accents. I decided to tip it on its end and make a towel rack out of it. First I painted it green it was white. Then I sanded it and found it had been pink before that. How nice! My bathroom is pink and green. I added the flowers to cover up the screws.
