Court Gardens Hofgarten This lavish Park was laid out in the 15th century on the grounds of the gardens of Archduke Leopold IV and Archduke Friedrich IV. In the 15th and 16th century it was extended in. In the early 19th century the gardens were transformed into a park with public access. The center of the park features a lovely Music Pavilion, erected around 1830, which is still used as venue for concerts. North of the building you find an open-air chess board, a favorite among park guests. To the north and the south you find two fountains. Various benches, a playground and the Hofgarten Café invite visitors to take a little rest and enjoy the magnificent surroundings. The monument of Archduke Eugene, designed by famous Austrian architect Clemens Holzmeister, was erected in 1957 (Field Marshal Archduke Eugene was the last of the Habsburg family to reside in Innsbruck). The Kunstpavillon (Art Pavilion), which used to be the Imperial Tea House, is now used as an exhibition space. |
