The anti-cure movement consists of a group of people, most of which are on the autistic spectrum but some neurotypical parents of autistic children are involved. We believe autism is a variation in human brain wiring and not a disorder. This difference in neurological wiring can make some things more difficult, some things easier, and some things just different. The wiring of the brain is central to the identity so changing the brain changes the person. The difficulties caused by this difference in brain wiring can be devistating so it is understandable why someone would want to get rid of those difficulties, and hence to want to cure autism. However, while the desire to cure autism is made with the best of intentions, an absolute "cure" for autism will get rid of more than just difficulties, it will destroy the original personality of the autistic person and replace them with another (neurotypical) person. We want to help autistic people overcome their difficulties without sacrificing their personality and basic identities. We want to educate the public about what autism really is so autistic people can live happy lives and be who they really are inside.
