PLAYING HOCKEY THE WORLD OVER
Modo - Winnipeg Jets 2-6 (1-3,1-1,0-2)
11 September 1977

#10 Tommy Själin and #8 Per Lundqvist have a marvellous chance to score but Gary Bromley makes a spectacular save.
Jets' Ulf Nilsson (#14) and Lars-Erik Sjöberg (#4) seem somewhat disorientated.

5 247 spectators gathered at Kempehallen on 11 September 1977 when the homegrown Anders Hedberg had returned with Bobby Hull and the other golden Jets to play against Modo. Hedberg didn't score nor assist - maybe because he was a bit nervous at getting "back home" - but it was a much welcomed return.
Per Lundqvist, assisted by Ulf Thors, made the first goal after 3.21 but the cheering didn't last long until Bobby Hull scored for the Jets, assisted by Ulf Nilsson. And after 6.32, Kent Nilsson (the "Mr Magic"-to-be) made 1-2 assisted by Bill Lesuk. At 11.45, Peter Sullivan shot the Jets to 1-3, assisted by Lars-Erik Sjöberg. The second period got a quick start when Hull (once again assisted by Ulf Nilsson) made 1-4 after 1.03. At the end of the period, Assar Lundgren scored for Modo, assisted by Mikko Leinonen (who were to play 162 NHL-games with New York Rangers and Washington Capitals 1981-85) and Peter Gradin. Only Winnipeg scored in the last period - Lars-Erik Sjöberg (assisted by Ulf Nilsson and Ted Green) made 2-5 after 6.30 before Kent Ruhnke ended the scoring at 18.24, assisted by Kent Nilsson.

Compared with the game against the Toronto Toros two years earlier, this was a friendly game with just a couple of penalties, so referee Olle Karlsson from Malmberget hadn't so much to do. The last period was a little hot though. At 5.47, Barry Long, Winnipeg, and Leif Carlsson, Modo, got two minutes each for roughing and at 18.45, there was a major brawl resulting in a high stick + roughing penalty for Winnipegs' Lyle Moffat, a 5 minute roughing penalty for Kim Clackson, Winnipeg, and a holding penalty for Anders Hagström, Modo.

In all it was a nice showcase of the famed Winnipeg Jets, at the time one of the best clubs in the world. Especially their defense was impressing. Modo had 49 shots against 28 (!), but lost 2-6 nevertheless.
