Trinitarians claim that verses such as Colossians 1:15, Colossians 2:9, Hebrews 1:3, indicate that Jesus is "God."
Examination of the Claims
1. The Nature of the Resurrection Body.
At 1 Corinthians 15:35-57, Paul describes the resurrection body. And here he explains that the resurrection body is a "heavenly body" and a "spiritual body." He describes this heavenly spiritual body as "life-giving Spirit or more literally "life-making Spirit." The idea here is that Spirit is what gives life and because the resurrection body is a spiritual body it gives itself life and so it is, in this way, immortal. This is unlike our present bodies which are mortal and only have life if a spirit is in these bodies. As James says, "the body without spirit is dead."
Paul also expects us to understand that the resurrection body is our selfsame bodies now clothed with the Spirit of God.
1. Colossians 1:15 - "Who is the image of the Invisible God."
2. Colossians 2:9 - "All the fullness of deity dwells in him bodily."
3. Hebrews 1:3 - "Who is the image of the Invisible God."
