Hindsight is 20/20. In hindsight I can only now see what it really means to be a Trinitarian.
To be a believer in the doctrine of the Trinity is to be Trinitarian.
To be Trinitarian I must believe in a God never once mentioned by Jesus or the Apostles.
To be Trinitarian means I must believe in a different God than the one and only God of Jesus.
To be Trinitarian means I must slight the uncomfortable fact that the main character of the Bible is the one true God who is mentioned thousands of times and yet my three person being is never once mentioned in the Bible. Rather, I must assume a preconceived notion of a three person God and read this concept back into the Bible for the sake of my Trinitarian tradition.
To be Trinitarian means that my God is the product of human reasoning and man's imaginations on one hand and I must deny this fact on the other.
To be Trinitarian means I must be in denial to the fact that every single one of our prooftexts are plagued with serious manuscript, translation, and interpretation problems, and pretend that anyone who does not agree with our personal manuscript, translation, and interpretation preferences is just not being honest about our "facts" and is just looking for excuses not to believe our doctrine.
To be Trinitarian means I must interpret Scripture and conform the Bible to suit my Trinitarian tradition wherever possible.
To be Trinitarian means I may grant myself permission to eisegetically read our Trinitarian ideas into the Bible over and over and over again but I appoint myself to police and ensure that nobody else does this type of thing.
To be Trinitarian means I do not really care about the intent of the author but pretend that I do and I may make excuses to justify my interpretations for the sake of my Trinitarian tradition as long as they can be made to sound plausible to the human ear.
To be Trinitarian means I may nullify certain Scriptures if necessary with other Scriptures or by dreaming up what seems like a clever contrivance.
To be Trinitarian means I dont' bother with hunting down the truth but I spend all my time dreaming up or hunting down excuses to justify my Trinitarian tradition.
To be Trinitarian means I fail to recognize that my doctrine contains numerous insurmountable logical contradictions and I just call them paradoxes or "apparent contradictions."
To be Trinitarian means I will say that my doctrine is a mystery we cannot fully comprehend even though we arrive at this doctrine, the conclusion, by our reasoning but I make sure I don't realize this ultimately means I am saying that we cannot fully comprehend the conclusion of our own reasoning.
To be Trinitarian means I get to insist that the Trinity must simply be accepted on faith even though it is not taught in the Bible and this three person God is a product of human reasoning and I ignore the fact that anyone could dream up another God and I would totally reject the idea that anyone should accept this concept of God on this kind of blind faith.
To be Trinitarian means I make sure I don't realize what I should realize.
