It was the religious leaders of Israel who had Jesus killed, the Jewish leadership.
But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea.... Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know-- this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, YOU nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. Acts 2:14,22-23.
Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom YOU delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. But YOU denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. Acts 3:12-14.
Now when the Captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this. 25 But someone came and reported to them, "The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!" 26 Then the Captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned). 27 When they had brought them, they stood them before the Sanhedrin. The High Priest questioned them, 28 saying, "We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man's blood upon us." 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men. 30 "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom YOU had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. Acts 5:24-30.
Trinitarians often insist the Jewish religious leaders wanted to kill Jesus for claiming to be God Himself, the God of Israel, their God. But we find nothing of the sort on the Scriptures. The Jews officially charged him with claiming to be God's son (Jn 19:7).
Trinitarians like to also pretend that the Jews more or less made an honest mistake when they charged Jesus with blasphemy claiming to be the Son of God. They like to pretend that the Jews really did think Jesus was blaspheming the name of God and according to the Law, Jesus had to be killed for this transgression. However, this claim bears no resemblance at all to the Scriptures. Jesus said these men were lawless hypocrites, liars, murderers, serpents, a brood of vipers, sons of Hell, and children of the Devil (John 8
Reasons they killed Jesus: Matthew 12:14;
The Jews killed Jesus out of jealousy.
