The Trinity on Trial An in-depth examination of a doctrine

David's God

Carefully consider the following evidence from Scripture and for each verse ask yourself if David's God was a three person being or a one person being.

For who in the skies is comparable to YAHWEH? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the LORD, A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, And awesome above all those who are around Him? O YAHWEH God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty YAHWEH?....He will cry to Me, 'You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.' I also shall make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. Psalm 89.

Compare the following verses and observe how, through the prophet Nathan, God the Father is necessarily the speaker at 2 Samuel 7:11-14:

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end. Luke 1:32-33.

For to what angel did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be a Father to him, and he shall be a Son to Me"? Hebrews 1:5.

YAHWEH also declares to you that YAHWEH will make a house for you. When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be a Father to him and he will be a son to Me. 2 Samuel 7:11-14.

Now carefully observe how David responds to God the Father.

Then David the king went in and sat before YAHWEH, and he said... You are great, O YAHWEH God; for there is none like You, and there is no God besides You
