Dr Pierre Emile THIBAULT

was a French medical doctor,

born on the 3rd of Aug 1910 in Paris.

He died June 17, 1994.

On this photo taken at 9 o’clock p.m. Sept 30 1939,

the morning of his marriage as the

Médecin Lieutenant THIBAULT

in the French army, 20 minutes

before leaving Le Hâvre by a train

East bound for WWII.

From the start, 2 short pages dedicated to my

father and mother have become a worldwide

genealogical, historical and cultural research

about the originally French name THIBAULT

and a number of related names and their variations.

My father on this photo above, was the son of

a trader, Jules Pierre Ernest Germain THIBAULT

who was born on the 4th of July 1876 in Ruffec,

Charente, France, and died 10th of Sept 1939

after his car accident while driving with his wife.

Jules Pierre Ernest Germain THIBAULT

was the son of Edouard Jules THIBAULT

born 27th of April 1834 who was a great grand-son of

Colonel Frédéric-Armand THIBAULT born 10 Jan

1770 in Bonneuil-en-France, Seine-et-Oise/

Val d’Oise.

Edouard Jules THIBAULT was also a maternal

grand-son of Adjudant Antoine CAILLAUD born

about 1788-1789, a non-commissioned officer in the

Grande Armée (-*-) of Napoleon.

After working with supplies and following the

French army of the West and abroad during

about 2 years as a teen-age boy,

Antoine CAILLAUD was about 16 or 17 years old

when he enlisted as a soldier with the

95e régiment d'infanterie de ligne  95me RÉGIMENT

and fought at:

Adjudant Antoine Caillaud is anew with the

95e Ligne, sous Cnel Garnier, sous Gal Brue, sous Gal Durette,

directly under Napoléon’s command.

Antoine Caillaud made all these campaigns entirely

on foot, with a wooden lower leg the last 2 years of

the Napoleonic wars and at Waterloo.

Antoine Caillaud survived, and under his nick-name

“Jambe d’Argent” for his leg wounded in Spain

and later replaced by a silver-coated wooden one,

he fought at Waterloo, and, when retiring 1836, bought

in an old house which is still there, a bistrot which had

150 years later still the same name, “Café de la Comédie”,

on the central square of Ruffec, Charente (Photos by PAT).

Not less than about 20 different THIBAULT,

more or less directly or distantly related cousins,

one of them being the Colonel Frédéric-Armand THIBAULT,

born 10 Jan 1770 in Bonneuil-en-France,

Seine-et-Oise/Val d’Oise,

also at Waterloo as the commander of the 72e de Ligne,

were all 20 militarily, politically, or professionally

active before, under and after the French Revolution

and the Napoleonic Wars, and will all get the

Légion d’honneur.

(Légion d’honneur, the complete list).

Jules Pierre THIBAULT, one of the great grand-sons

of Colonel Frédéric-Armand THIBAULT and of

Adjudant Antoine CAILLAUD, was a few years a

corporal in the French colonial army in Algeria on

the border to Morocco at the end of the 19th and

beginning of the 20th century.

After his military service, he became together

with his aging father Edouard Jules THIBAULT

the owner of the same bistrot under its present

name “Café de la Comédie” in an old house

which is still there, on the central square of Ruffec.

He became later a trader in Paris where he married Jeanne Célestine BROUST,

the daughter of a trader colleague. Jules Pierre and Jeanne Célestine had three

children, the eldest, a girl, Yvonne who married Lucien Gouy, a dentist colleague

of her younger brother Dr Pierre Emile THIBAULT, and the youngest brother,

Jacques Thibault, a trader, photographed here beside his father Jules Pierre.

Jules Pierre and Jeanne Célestine are buried at the “Cimetière du Père Lachaise”

in Paris, in a tomb common to the THIBAULT and BROUST families.

Dr Pierre Emile THIBAULT, wrote his

medical thesis at the “Faculté de Médecine de Paris” in 1935 about “Les accidents infectieux d´origine dentaire chez les syphilitiques”.

He was appointed as a “Médecin Capitaine de la Marine Marchande”, and he is

photographed here aboard his ship, the MS LAFAYETTE,

and here beside a visiting American Indian chief in the harbour of New York.

He sailed from Le Hâvre, France, to the Americas, North Africa, and the

Middle-East during most of the second half of the thirties.

Dr Pierre Emile THIBAULT, photographed again here as “Médecin Capitaine

de la Marine Marchande”, married a first time Sept 30, 1939, in Le Hâvre, France,

with Maria Josefina VIGAS, born Oct 20, 1920 or 1924, in Caracas, Venezuela,

later a teacher in French. Maria Josefina is the daughter of Andres Jorge VIGAS

and Maria Olivero de VIGAS.  Maria Josefina VIGAS is also photographed here

in 1951 in Caracas, after her divorce from Dr Pierre Emile THIBAULT.

She visited her two sons and their families in France and Sweden in 2002.

She died in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2005.

Dr Pierre Emile THIBAULT died June 17, 1994, in Royan, Charente Maritime,

and is buried in the Cimetière du Gond-Pontouvre in Angoulême, Charente,

in a tomb common to Jeanne Marie Montarou, his second wife, with whom

he had a daughter, Marie Bénédicte Thibault, a teacher in Spanish, married

with Regis Lefebvre, a trader, with whom she has a daughter, Marine Lefebvre.

Dr Pierre E Thibault and Maria J Vigas have two sons,  Pierre André THIBAULT,

a French journalist, born October 10 1939 in Le Hâvre, France,

and José Maria Philippe THIBAULT, a trader, and an excellent pianist specialist
