I got back today on Wednesday to go back to church and because I was dying to finally talk to Robin. It was cloudy at Kiholo today anyway. Yesterday was amazing and sunny. Yes, I am dark. Getting back to church, I was sad to see that Robin had to take an emergency last minute trip to Oahu to help our potential roomate Natasha move her stuff. Robin wont be back until Friday. I really want to make things right and I felt like the pressure was building fast. I brought the issue up with Cher and she told me that she notices Robin's pride. She said that Robin and I have a lot in common with each other in terms of stubborness, pride, and opinions. She said that we are carbon copies of each other discluding the physical differences. She said that there is nothing wrong with that because we are both still good people, but God made us strong. Cher said that Robin is still new and hasnt developed her tact with discipling opinions yet. She stated that Robin is quick to point your sins out to you abruptly. She believes that as Robin matures, she will develop that. Part of the growing will come with us showing her. I hope she doesnt get offended and actually recognizes and tapers her statements.
It is the middle of the night and the beginning of August 14, 2003. It is eight and a half days and counting down before you are here, I am 30, and my second day of teaching at Hilo High! That is soon, but it feels like forever because it has been so long since I have seen you. I called the roadrunner service to make an appointment for you but they have to call me back with the date and time. You will need to be there when they come and have your drivers license. It is free installation and $30 a month.
I'm glad I came back when I did. I went to the high school and met the math department head Tracy. She has been there for only four years and not only got tenured, but is now head of the department. She is only 33 years old and the same height as I am. She has really been helping me alot with everything. My room is A27 on the left hand side on the third floor right next to Tracy. I met Mr. Kaetsu, the surfer. He wants to surf sometime. His room is near mine too. I heard that I am taking Mr. Sharps place. I feel that is an honor considering everything you told me about him. My first day is on Tuesday, the students first day is on Thursday. I think I want to go camping again in the next couple of days before I start.
Cher asked me to pick up Robin at the airport for her. It was a good opportunity to finally get out the monster. She was calm while I was talking, but stated that the reason she was harsh was because she has high expectations for me because she cares so much. Then, she mentioned that it was not entirely her fault, that I have alot of pride and I can be taking the criticism too hard. She agreed to try to tone it down, which is good, I hope. We went to Kyle and Evan's house tonight for a get together with other disciples. Everything was great.
The reason why they are called disciples is because the bible mentions the word disciple over 270 times and the word Christian only 3 times. Im really tan now and hanging surf posters on the wall in the classroom. I want the kids to find a way to relate to me. It is going to be a tough balance because I want them to be aware I am an authority figure but at the same time not despise me. I'm nervous. I hope to talk to you tonight or soon before you leave to get more information from you about your trip and arrival.
Thank you so much for starting the webpage. I think scary is fine. Actually it is great. They will have an easier time remembering the site. I really appreciate you working on the site.
I'm sorry about the pictures. I tried uploading them again and I think I saw them in the list. I hope for success this time. Tomorrow is my first day. There are going to be 180 teachers and administrators at the meeting tomorrow and still no students. The students start on Thursday and I got my roster. So far I have 109 students, but that will increase after the first day from what I heard. I miss you and love you. Only 3 and a half days before I see you! Isnt that amazing? Its been so long, I forgot what it's like to have you around.
Tomorrow is freshmen only day. Was it always like that for you? Friday will be the first day for everybody else.
The ironic part about this is that the book for the easier algebra class is way harder than the book for the harder one. They planned on cutting out the basic algebra next year anyway. No wonder the kids dont want to work in the class. They dont want to read that extensively just to do the homework. Heck, I even hate it and have to double check the steps. I feel like teaching the easy guys completely out of my own handouts which will reflect the harder class providing them with the necessary content standards. That will gyp them of the credit they deserve though.
Good luck on your flight and dont get too nervous. My last class ends at 2:06 pm. I'll probably be there by 2:30. I understand if you want Chelsea to pick you up instead if you dont want to wait. I would love to see you, so I am coming, unless you state otherwise.
