The Queen's Recreational Equestrian Club offers English hunter-seat equitation lessons for all rider levels; beginner though advanced. There is one session per semester, with 8 lessons per session. Each lesson is for one hour, once a week on weekday afternoons & evenings, and some weekends. Transportation is not included in the club fee. Some club members share a cab with the other riders in their lesson while others may have a car they are willing to use.
Facilities include two local stables (Maple Lane Stables and Dream Catcher Farm, both within 15-20 minutes of campus) with indoor arenas. School horses are well trained, and the opportunity may exist for more advanced riders to school privately owned horses. Both flatwork and jumping are emphasized at the stables.
Signups & Cost
We run sign-ups for lessons within the first 2 or 3 weeks of each semester and all members must attend sign-ups to get a spot regardless of past participation. Lessons are paid for in a group of 8; there is room to make up one lesson at the end of each session. The cost for each semester is 200$ (8 lessons X 25$) plus membership fees (5$ for students or 10$ for faculty/staff/alumni). The membership fee is payable once per year (ie. riders who ride both semesters do not have to pay it a second time). Fees must be paid at sign-ups. Cheques should be made out to "Queen's Equestrian Club". If you plan to pay in cash, please have the exact amount with you as we will most likely not have change.
To save time at signups, print and fill out the following forms and bring them with you!!!
Participant Medical Information Form; This form requires information such as health card numbers, doctors names & phone numbers that you may not have with you at sign-ups.
Winter 2004 Time Slot Preference Form; Available timeslots now posted.
Riding Experience Form; We have changed our level system for the winter semester. All riders will be asked to fill out this new checklist of riding abilities.
We hope to hear from all of you horse lovers out there, even if you've never ridden before!!
Looking For Somewhere To Board?
Are you planning to come to Queen's and are wondering about where to board your horse? Check out Maple Lane and Dream Catcher first as they are the barns used by the club. That way you could take lessons with other Queen's riders and still get to ride your own horse. If that doesn't work out, check out the "bulletin board" on the Wilton Tack website which has a list of many local barns.
