FESTIVE HOLIDAY STUFF
REVIEW

*****

The sims 2 Festive Holiday Pack is in-fact an updated version of the Christmas pack that was released the previous year. It contains most of the same objects, with a few small additions. If you already own the christmas stuff pack, there is little new in this pack.

This pack is an add-on, you MUST have the Sims 2 base game to install and play this title.

The system requirements are as follows:

* Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
* 1GB processor
* 256 MB HardDisk space
* 3.8GB RAM
* 8X DVD
* 32MB video card
* DirectX 9.0c compatible soundcard

The pack provides 60 Christmas items such as trees, fairy lights, stockings, and presents. As well as some international touches like the new Asian items and European Christmas decor. It should be noted, however, that many of the new items are purely decorative which was rather disappointing.

Two new food options are available, the 'Holiday Roast' (but which, frustratingly, requires the Cornucopia item to be on the lot) and 'Christmas Cookies' (Santa's favorite).

There are new festive outfits for your sims to wear, but naturally the use of this clothing, as well as the vast majority of the items, are exclusively seasonal.

You also have the ability to throw a New Year party, but again, this is exclusively seasonal and the novelty can soon wear thin.

It should be noted that 'snow' is not available in this stuff pack, so making a 'white Christmas' is not possible without the 'Seasons' expansion pack

Also, there is no 'gift giving' interaction included in this pack so you would have to use your imagination unless you have the 'Seasons' expansion pack.

I have found that the pack does function far more effectively in conjunction with the Seasons expansion pack in terms of playability and realism (due to the snow).

Santa makes an appearance as a non-playable character and will leave gifts for your sims (as long as you can work out how), along with old father time, and the 'new year baby'.

Overall, the game is quite a novelty and entertaining. It can be a lot of fun to decorate your sims' houses for Christmas, but afterwards it all has to come down again, which is just as dull as the real life counterpart.

I must admit, I did enjoy watching the sim children wake up on Christmas morning and watching them enjoy their new toys while the parents prepared a holiday roast in the kitchen while wearing their festive 'Mr & Mrs Claus' outfits. Relatives were invited over to join the party and everyone had a wonderful time.

The title may be worth a look if you can find it cheaply, but there is not enough value for money to considering purchasing at rrp.
