Isn't it interesting how a "Night Out With The Boys" changes with time.
On the evening of fathers day I received a phone call from some friends
who were headed out to another friends house with reasonable dark skies.
I packed everything thing up (or so I thought) and met up with "La Gang"
and we headed off to Walters.
Upon arriving I found several things. One, my 12V battery had died
during transport, I suspect the drive shook particles off of the plates
and shorted out a few cells since a test at home had shown 13V and I now
had 4.x volts. I had left both my analogue (read wind up darkroom clock)
and digital timers at home. After severa;l other obstacles were overcome
I did a very quick polar alignment and started shooting some Supra 400
with my Pentax MX and a 28mm lens at f/2.8.
Here are the best shots from the night.
Cygnus Milky Way Region
Scanned with SprintScan 35 Plus
Levels and curves adjusted in PhotoShop
Exposure ~10 minutes
Following some suggestions received, here is the same photo processed
differently
Central Milky Way
Scanned with SprintScan 35 Plus
Levels and curves adjusted in PhotoShop
Exposure ~5 minutes
Again with some suggested changes to the processing.
And when the mount jammed this rather interesting Star Trails shot was
the result.
Again the exposure was ~5-10 minutes. Nothing like star trails with
a star cloud as the background.
