Arrived unscathed in Athens at 7:30 am or so. The bus dropped us off at the Pink Palace's sister hostel, but Robin, Dave, Geo & I took the metro across town to stay in a different hostel w/ a better location. Checked in & waited in their courtyard for the rooms to be ready & while we were there we ran into Collin & Amber ... so a bunch of our Canadian group all together again. Got a 4-bed room w/ Robin & Dave ... we all passed out immediately for a much-needed nap. Woke up a few hours later & had a shower. Walked to Sintagma Square and around the neighbourhood doing random errands like internet & photos burning to CDs. Swung by the hostel to pick up Robin & Dave for dinner at the restaurant next door. Great authentic Greek food & they gave us each a free glass of wine :) All the restaurants here have patios on the street & the staff are on the sidewalk encouraging you (sometimes quite persistently) to eat or drink there. Amber & Collin showed up after dinner & we all decided to go out for a drink. Collin asked the guy working in a liquor store if we could just drink on the streets here & the answer "Yes, of course!" (as if we even needed to ask). So we bought some wine & found a little side street where we could see the Acropolis all lit up on top of its hill & drank our wine straight from the bottle on someone's doorstep ... classy!!! On our way back we thought we'd stop for a beer on a roof-top garden patio - also w/ a view of the Acropolis. However, when we saw their drink prices we were ready to apologize & get up to leave, when they brought out a different menu saying "here - this is better". The prices on the new menu were lower enough that we each ordered a beer. The walk home was fun since none of us really knew where we were going. This cute stray dog joined us on our walk ... stayed w/ us all the way home. Sad goodbye to Amber & Collin who leave first thing in the morning for Santorini (another place Geo & I have added to our list of places we want to go next time!).
