Daytrip out of Barcelona today ... to Sitges.
Started the day off w/ Geo forgetting her money belt in the apartment after Sue had left to do her errands for the day, so we had to wait for her to come home before leaving. Meanwhile I headed to the local corner store owned by Anser & Ashraf (sp?) who we had been introduced to the day before. Chatted w/ Anser about our plans for the day & when I went up to the cash to pay for my snacks he threw in some pastries for my sister & I to have on the train at no charge ... I thought that was really nice!
Took a quick train ride (no more than 30 mins) to Sitges. Headed straight down to the water & sat on a bench on the beach watching these huge waves come crashing in. Then spent a little time walking around the town for a while ... stopped for lunch at a little restaurant. Struggled w/ ordering b/c they always assume you want the menu del dia which is this huge 3 course lunch that most people in Spain order at that time of day, but all we wanted was a quick snack. The waitress was great tho & we managed to all understand each other :)
Stopped by a payphone to give Nick a call ... first time IŽd heard his voice in 2 and a half weeks. So nice to hear from my sweetie!!!
Went back down to the beach & strolled along the "boardwalk" they have, watched people surfing (I think I really want to learn how to surf), & bought this velcro ball & paddle set to play catch w/. Basically spent the afternoon hanging out on the beach (lifeŽs rough). Felt great to be barefoot in the wet sand & walking along the edge of the water (still a bit cold tho). Headed back to Barcelona for dinner w/ Sue once it started to get darker.
A great day. As w/ Toledo, it was really great to see a town that is still Spanish looking as opposed to the big cities like Barcelona & Madrid.
