Saturday, May 1st, 2004, - Paris, France

Breakfast at the hostel again ... mmm fresh baguette in the morning :) Geo & I walked over to the Jardin des Plantes - a big arboretum/garden type thing. They even had a small zoo - you had to pay to get in, but Geo & I peeked over & thru some fences to catch a look at some deer (woo! *sarcastic*), gazelles, & ostriches. We strolled around the gardens & up a spiral path to a little gazebo atop a hill. Then we walked along the Seine over to Ile de St-Louis. Checked out all the old buildings - this island is the posh neighbourhood of Paris where some of the bigger celebrities live (or so our books tell us). We stopped at a Patisserie to grab a baguette (dirt cheap!) & a cremerie to get some cheese & slices of ham & then sat by the river & made ourselves a sandwhich ... tasted so good - it was all so fresh :)
Crossed the bridge over to Ile de la Cite. Stopped to listen to a band bluesy/jazzy/country band that was playing on the bridge - American guys who have lived in Paris for 14 years now - they were great! Took a little tour of Notre-Dame ... huge stain glass windows, beautiful prayer altars & lit candles. Absolutely gorgeous!
Walked back to the hostel & had a quick nap (much needed after all the walking we'd done). Met our new roommates from England. Did some laundry (lesson learned --> do not do laundry the nite before leaving a hostel - cotton will not be dry by the time you pack up in the morning).
Found a restaurant to try in our books - got there only to find out it no longer exists, so we ate at an Pizza/Pasta place we'd seen on the way. Our first real sitdown dinner here - very nice & relaxing!
