Thursday, April 29th, 2004, - From London to Paris

So up at 8:00, a quick stop at the grocery store for breakfast & the post office & then took the metro over to the train station. Bought our pricey Eurostar train tickets to take the chunnel (sp?) over to Paris. Uneventful 3 hour ride to Paris ... we are now 6 hours ahead of the time in Ottawa. Spent a fair amount of time in the Paris train station (Gare du Nord) trying to find a bank machine & decipher the metro maps. Hopped on the metro to the 5ieme arrondissement (I propbably spelled that wrong too). Got street directions from 2 nice old ladies who said the street we're staying on (Rue Mouffetard) is fantastic & that we absolutely have to visit la Place du Contrescarpe. Our hostel is called the "Young & Happy" hostel. We're in a 4-bed room w/ one other girl - from Vancouver.
So after dropping our stuff off at the hostel we spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the neighbourhood. Stopped for baguette sandwiches at a little place along the way. Found ourselves in a huge park w/ a big fountain & lots of greenery. They also have all these chairs out in the Park & everyone comes to sit & talk/read/peoplewatch ... it's pretty cool. It started raining in the evening. Geo & I went up the street a block or two & sat down in a bar for a beer. Spent the evening just chatting w/ each other over beer - watching people in Paris :)
