Keith at the Movies

When I was 16 years old, my friend Sam and I possessed quite a vocabulary. Daily viewings of Beavis and Butthead will do that to a couple impressionable teenagers. At the same time, we watched A LOT of movies. Naturally, our interesting take on the English language carried over to our movie reviews. Now, six years later, I bring that system over to my site, although I'll warn you, I don't see nearly as many movies anymore. Here are my reviews of every new movie I have seen since December '02.

Ratings Guide
Ruled = A
Cool = B
Ehhhh = C
Sucked = D
Blew = F

Catch Me If You Can: I think I'm alone here, but I thought this movie was incredibly boring. The cast is good, the director is good, the composer is good, but if the story isn't good, it doesn't matter. Actually, the cast wasn't even that good. Leo was fine, but Tom Hanks can't even play Tom Hanks that well anymore. The Costneresque, on again/off again Boston accent served as more of a distraction than anything else. Anyway, the movie is just extremely linear, with no real drama, suspense, climax, etc. There was nothing offensively bad about it, it just didn't really go anywhere. Then, just when you think it is finally over, it goes on for another 20 minutes. Most people seemed to enjoy it, but I just kept waiting to care about something or someone.

Ehhh

Two Weeks Notice: If you've seen one romantic comedy you've pretty much seen 'em all, but this one is good for a few extra laughs. A guy getting shot out of a cannon into a vat of ice cream was enough to save this film.

Cool

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: This was technically as good as the first one, but the novelty is gone. The Quidditch scene, for how little it meant to the plot, was too drawn out. And I think the movie is a little too dark (blood on the walls, hanging cats, etc.) and scary for kids, and maybe should have been rated PG 13. Otherwise, it had pretty much all the fun of the first one.

Cool+
