Chapter 524 was chartered by EAA in 1975. Since that time the chapter has grown and become a vital and active organization dedicated to promoting safety in aviation and educational activities that benefit the membership and the community through it's affiliated Aviation Education Center, Inc.* The chapter has approximately 100 members and hosts a number of activities including:

Fostering interest in Sport Aviation. Chapter 524 and the Aviation Education Center, Inc.  have as their goal to promote, encourage, and facilitate activities that provide educational opportunities for its members and the community.  In addition to monthly programs for members and visitors plans are to host community workshops on weekends in such diverse topics as preventive aircraft maintenance,  aircraft construction techniques,  proper use of aircraft tools and equipment, flight testing, and aircraft safety.

The chapter has four EAA approved Technical Counselors and two Flight Advisors. These dedicated volunteers are available to assist members as well as to prepare them for their first flight following completion of their projects.

Building and safety seminars.  The chapter hosts the EAA's Sportair Workshops which focus on developing basic skills of aircraft construction.  In addition, the chapter conducts weekend workshops designed to assist in the development of aircraft construction practices that meet accepted standards of construction and contribute to safe flight.

Young Eagles. This program represents a concerted effort to involve youth in aviation through a variety of educational activities including introductory flights, and hands-on building experiences. In addition the chapter provides a variety of aviation experiences to community groups such as the Scouts, 4H clubs, and local schools.

Monthly Chapter Membership Meetings include programs designed to promote understanding of aircraft maintenance, as well as the building, and restoration process. Through chapter membership individuals have access to technical knowledge and know-how in the safe construction and maintenance of aircraft. The chapter is particularly advantaged in having among its members a significant number of experienced builders and restorers as well as trained airframe and power plant mechanics and teachers.

The chapter meets the first Thursday of the month (except in March when other events are planned) at 7:30 pm in the  Aviation Education Center, at the Frederick Municipal Airport. Visitors are always welcome. Meetings usually include a brief report on Chapter business and activities, refreshments, and an educational program focusing on some aspect of construction, renovation or aircraft operation.  Recent programs have included topics on maintaining and servicing magnetos, wiring and antenna installations, engine selection, wheel alignment problems and solutions, conditional inspections, and working with metal and composites.

Annual Airport Appreciation Day & Open house.   In conjunction with the Frederick Municipal Airport Appreciation Day events & the AOPA Fly-In & Open House, the chapter hosts its own day's events.  This year's event will take place on June 7, 2008.  The Chapter hosts area EAA chapter members, provides information about aircraft construction, restoration, and aviation safety.  We provide materials designed to inform the public about the EAA movement and to support the community's interest in the airport and in aviation technology.
