Danny had a
decidedly mixed year in 2001.
He visited Victory Lane twice in 01 which included winning the first ever two day
RFR High Desert Shootout in the Hobby Stock class.
He also picked up three Trophy Dash wins and newmerus second & third place finishes
He has won at some of the sport's most
demanding and historic trials, including Building a car,and keeping
it running.
That's the good news.
The bad news is , Danny finished 9th in the points standings,
and was a non-factor in the championship race for
the season.
It seems that all the
Collins Motorsports Team needs to do is eliminate the little
problems, and it will be a serious championship contender. Clearly
the talent is in place; perhaps all that's needed is some racing experince
time in the seat & on the track
D.J. made his Hobby Stock debut midway into the season at Fernley
in 2000, in which he placed sixth. It was his first Fernley race(
also his first race ever), but the effort caught the eye of the
Family members & future sponsor Speedway Auto Slavage owners
Ron & Wally who have come onboard and helped Collins Motor Sports in
there effort to get the #33 car to the front of the field.
In 2000, Collins ran the half season for his newley formed team
without any DNFs. He finished 6th in the overall for the
Northern Nevada Dirt Track Championship in his first try .
in 2001 he had 2 DQs and 1 DNR and still mannaged a top ten finish
in the season points standings.
