CLASSIC-ARCADE FAQ

CLASSIC ARCADES -- August 12th, 2002.

This site is designed to help answer the most common questions we are asked regarding shipping, maintenance, delivery and more of an arcade game or pinball machine... Here are some basic questions answered. I get these questions a lot.

Q: How do I package an arcade game or pinball machine?

A: well, we have gone through about 5 different phases of packaging and we believe that we have somewhat mastered the art of packaging one! At first, we admit, we was pretty sloppy! I now buy in bulk from local suppliers various packaging products. I package every game I ship, myself. I use a wood pallet, cotton or nylon rope, thick cardboard sheets and 1 1/2" foam padding and shrinkwrap. I securely strap the game to a pallet and just wrap from there and give the simulated truck shake test :) In some instances, if the occasion calls for it, we build wooden crates for the games.

Q: Who ships my games from me to you?

A: I have worked very hard to get accounts with my shippers. I have one account with Forward Air. I receive a 40% discount with them. There are very few ssellers on Ebay that ship with Forward Air that have this discount. You may see an auction on Ebay for an arcade game. The person will say I ship with Forward air. cost is 200.00 PLUS a 75.00 PACKING FEE. OK, well, for me that 200.00 would be 120.00 and my packaging fee is 40.00. Just basically the cost of the supplies. 270.00 with them or 160.00 with me. I have another account with PILOT AIR and BAXGLOBAL. They ship games direct to your door. The cost is similar to Forward Air but with a home delivery fee and a lift gate service fee that varies depending on many different factors.
1. Is it going to a business?
2. Is it going to need a lift gate?
3. how far is your home or business from the terminal?
All those factors determine the cost of the shipping. Business deliveries are cheaper. Lift gate service is expensive. The only way to get a real quote is to email us with your information.

Q: How would you recommend I have the game shipped?

A: I say the less that you have to spend the better. Forward Air is definitely a safe and fast way to ship. It is also very inexpensive.

Q: How would I move the game around if I picked it up from you or Forward Air's terminal?

A: I personally use a chevy astro van and I can fit 2 games in that van. I lay the games on their backs. Most games fit in a short bed truck with the lift gate closed, a van with the seats out or just about any medium sized suv. We had even packed an arachnid dart game into a PT cruiser!

Q: How much does a game weigh?
A: about 275 for a pinball machine and up to 375 pounds for an arcade game..

Q: What sort of warrantee do you offer..

A: When games were new (25+ years ago) The manufacturer gave a 30 day warrantee on the boards. 30 days and you were on your own. Well, many years later, many of these games are still around. However, I cannot offer any guarantees aside from the fact that I accurately describe the games condition and it leaves my shop IN THAT CONDITION. We have our games gone through by professional techs with 20+ years experience.. After the sale, I am always available and you can call me anytime with any questions.

Q: How long have you been doing this for and do you fix the games yourself?

A: Well, I have been into the hobby for jsut under 2 years.. I have learned quite a bit about fixing games but I still contract all my work out to a local company. I work directly with the owners/techs of that company and they have been in business for nearly 25 years! I run almost all my games through them before listing them on Ebay.

Q: Do you operate games on location?

A: No, I do not operate games out on route. I strictly resell and collect.

Q: Where can I learn myself to fix pinball machines and arcade games?

A: We composed a list of many many web sites below that offer excellent information on fixing and reparing games, burning roms for arcade games, working on pcb boards, cosmetic restoration, and much much more. This page is updated weekly as we receive more and more questions. If your question is not answered here, please email me at the address at the bottom of this page.
