Episode 232...

~ Jade ~

Ugh. Being pregnant seriously sucks. I just woke up, ran to the bathroom and threw up. So starts my day lately and it sucks. My doctor told me to expect morning sickness, saying most women stop it in their third month. I’d just nodded and expected to totally sail through without any sickness. Yeah, right. Well, I’m in my second month now so I guess another four weeks is not gonna kill me. I splash my face with water and straighten up, feeling another wave of nausea hit me. I groan and bend over the toilet again. Not gonna kill me?

~ Nick ~

Nick lets himself into Ali’s apartment. Ali has a job today – shooting some actor from the CSI show. Nick can’t remember who. She forgot a zoom lens so he volunteered to go and get it for her. He walks through the apartment, heading for her room. He can hear noises from the bathroom and figures Jade must be around. He stops outside, about to knock and let her know he’s there. He hears her groan and then the sound of retching. He pulls a face and knocks lightly.
“Jade? It’s Nick. You ok?”
“Yeah!” she yells back.
“Ok. Well I’ll be out here, ok?”
“OK!”
“Ok,” he repeats and walks into Ali’s room. He finds the missing camera lens and walks back out into the lounge. There’s a book open by the telephone and he walks over to it. He looks around to check Jade isn’t coming and bends down to read it. There’s a doctor’s name and number scrawled over a comment.
Arrange three month scan by Friday.
“Three month scan?” Nick reads aloud and sits down slowly. Why does Jade need a three month scan? Scan of what? Of her brain?
“Hey Nicky,” Jade interrupts his confused thinking. “What you doin’ here? Ali is out somewhere.”
“Yeah, she’s doing a shoot. She sent me to get her camera lens,” Nick says, still thinking.
“Oh right.”
“So, you ok?” he suddenly asks.
“Uh, yeah. Oh, you mean in the bathroom? I was a little nauseous,” she says rolling her eyes. “Musta ate somethin’ wrong.”
“Ya threw up?”
“Yup.”
“Oh, that sucks. Feel better now?” he asks sympathetically and she nods. “Cool.”
“Well, I need some water,” Jade heads off to the kitchen.
Nick watches her go. Being sick is real horrible. Especially when you’re on your own and there’s nobody around to hold your hair back and stroke your back. He remembers when Janice, their wardrobe boss, was pregnant last year and she would throw up every day for three months. He had been scared to go in wardrobe in case he ended up wiping her sweaty brow. He chuckles at the memory and then stops. Wait a minute… Throwing up, three month scan?
“You’re PREGNANT?!” Nick yells as he runs into the kitchen. Jade spins round, dropping her glass. It smashes on the floor and water splashes up her legs. “God, I’m sorry,” he apologises, reaching out his hand to move her away from the glass. “It’s true though?”
“Uh…”
“I guessed Jade. You’ve been bein’ sick a lot lately right?”
“Yeah,” she sighs. “Ok, it’s true.”
“Oh my god…” Nick stares at her.
“I know,” Jade bows her head. “You think I’m awful now… But Nick I didn’t mean for it to happen.”
“Awful? I don’t think you’re awful!” he exclaims, giving her a hug. “I think this is amazin’ news!”
“You do?” she looks up at him.
“And Brian will be SO happy,” Nick continues. “He loves you so much and this will… Well, it will help him get over the whole JC and AJ thing!” he decides, running out of the door.
“NICK!” Jade yells, following him.
“I gotta go!”
“Don’t tell him!” she yells as he jumps into his car and speeds away.

~ Jade ~

“Damn!” I exclaim as I watch Nick’s car disappear from view. How the hell did he guess?! He can’t tell Brian about the baby. I can’t believe he had immediately thought it was Brian’s. I mean, we haven’t been together since before I had my accident. There’s no way it could be Brian’s. I head back inside and dial Nick’s cell. It just rings out and I give up with a sigh. Maybe he won’t tell Brian.

“Ali?” I say as I hear the door open and close.
“Who else?” she walks into the lounge and sits by me.
“Good shoot?” I ask warily. I wonder if she knows, if Nick has told her.
“Yeah, it went well,” she smiles. “Guess what?”
“What?”
“I am getting married!” she declares excitedly.
“Wow,” I stare at Ali in shock. “Sorry but I thought I heard miss I’m-not-the-marrying-kind say she’s getting married?”
“Aw, shadup!” Ali groans. “Things have changed.”
“They sure have,” I grin at her. “Seriously, I am SO happy for ya Ali. You guys deserve to be happy. And I cannot wait to see you guys get married!”
“Me neither!” she admits. “Oh it was so romantic Jady. He went down on one knee and everything!”
“Wow,” I grin.
“I can’t believe I said yes! I always thought it’d freak me out but he asked and it totally DIDN’T!”
“Because you guys are so right for each other,” I tell her and give her a hug. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you!” she grins and then lets out a squeal before looking embarrassed. “Oh my God, I squealed. How much more valley girl can I get?!”
“I think you can be forgiven,” I tell her. “In the circumstances.”
“Thanks!” she laughs. “Ok, I am gonna go buy the BIGGEST bottle of wine and then we are gonna get totally trashed in honour of my engagement to blondie.”
“Sounds good,” I smile. She doesn’t know about the baby. If Nick hasn’t told her, maybe he hasn’t told Brian either.
