Kamal, Ahmed Farzan
Ahmed Kamal received his BSECE from Purdue University (1997 – 1999, recorded shortest period). He joined the Lab of Electrical Man-Machine Systems (LEMS) at Brown University as a graduate research assistant while pursuing his MS in Engineering degree (1999 – 2000). Afterwards, he worked in a project funded by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and collaborated with the MIT Lincoln Laboratory (May – Aug., 2000). He started working toward his PhD in ECE at Georgia Institute of Technology from Fall, 2000 and was employed by Georgia Tech as a graduate teaching assistant and instructor for the school of ECE (Fall, 2000 –Fall, 2001). In Fall of 2001, he joined the Epsilon Group at the Manufacturing & Research Center (MARC) headed by Professor Madhavan Swaminathan and the Communications Systems Center(CSC) at the GCATT(Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology) directed by Professor John Copeland. At Purdue, Ahmed mostly worked in developing intelligent and more flexible robots using nitinol and fast current flow/low heating capable semiconductors. At LEMS, Ahmed developed a software and technology for vision guided surgery. While working for the jointly funded project, Ahmed invented an algorithm for precise motion, energy, and state (rotation, etc.) detection in moving objects and micro-devices. Currently, his research interest is in the area of wireless telecommunications, electronics design and applications, and electromagnetism to remove the path loss induced, multipath fading and multiuser signal distortion problems to guarantee QoS in current and future wired/wireless devices. He has been developing new scheduling algorithms and protocols, and new and compact and robust smart antenna systems and a LNA which will use electromagnetic principles to cope with the existing signal detection over distance problem (multi-path fading, noise, coupling, MAI, etc.) in a multi-signal environment.
