LANCAIR ES 600MT

 Lancair ES 600MT

This page is dedicated to two wonderful people, Mark Taber and Fred Jones.

Mark Taber, Pilot, Builder and Owner.

Fred Jones, Flight Instructor, Electrical Engineer, Helicopter pilot for the National Guards

Welcome to my webpage. After three years, 600MT took its first flight on March 25th, 2002 at 5:30 p.m. Anyone who has ever built their own plane knows this was anticipation. If you have any suggestions on improvements on the plane keep it to yourself and buy your own Lancair kit.

More about the lancair, Mark built the plane and Fred Jones of Hattiesburg installed the electronics. between the two of us, we believe this is the finest lancair ever.

The plane flies at 190 knots at 8500 feet without wheel pants. We are still working on the first 25 hours but so far, it is better than I ever expected.

The control panel consists of two Sierra screens, an Apollo MX20, Sierra air data unit, S-Tec 60-2 autopilot, Shaden Encoder and Altitude Alert, standard vacuum gyros for backup, 2 1/4 airspeed altimeter and vertical speed instrument. Radios consist of KX-155 Nav Com, Apollo GX60 GPS Com, KT-76 transponder, KR-87 ADF receiver and a PMS-6000 stereo audio panel.

Thanks for visiting my web page.

Fred once told me that if anything should happen to him, he would want to be remembered as a pilot for that is what he was born to do and loved. He was a great pilot and instructor and cherished his family and friends. He was a very strong christian and there is no doubt in my mind, he is flying higher than ever before.

This is another picture of Owner and Builder Mark Taber and Flight Instructor/Test Pilot Fred Jones.

This is a picture of Mark Taber exiting 600MT.

This is a picture of 600MT doing touch and goes.

This is a picture of Mark working on the plane. .

This is a picture of Fred in the hanger. I think this is my favorite picture I have of Fred. He loved electronics. This is another picture I took of Fred that day. He always had that smile and sparkle in his eyes

This picture was sent by Jim Ulma, a close friend of Fred's. This is a picture of Mark and Fred at Fun and Sun in Florida. It was a fly-in show and they were showing 600MT off. They were really excited about this air show as a lot of people were so impressed with the plane.

These pictures are of Fred and Mark in the plane while flying out west. The First and Second are of Mark. The Third and Fourth are of Fred.

This is a picture of Mark and Fred taxing down the airstrip. They were so excited about finally being able to fly this dream they built together.

These are some pictures shared by Tony Cappello, one of Mark's best friends. They were taken when Mark and Fred flew out west. I really appreciate Tony sharing these with us. These are the five pictures Tony sent. First picture, Second picture. Third picture, Fourth picture, and Fifth picture.

These are some pictures shared by Mr. Ronnie Gibson. He and his family were more than just friends to Fred and Mark, they were like extended family. They run the Southeast Aviation Services, Inc., at Hattiesburg-Chain Municipal Airport (KHBG) and if you ever fly in to Hattiesburg and want to sit down in a comfortable terminal and share stories about Fred and Mark, these people are wonderful to you. The first picture is of Fred standing in front of the helicopter, that he use fly with the National Guard. The second picture is of Fred sitting in the cockpit of the helicopter. The third picture is one that was given to me by Fred when we were together.

This is a picture of Mark in his vet. This picture was sent by Kevin Carpenter with the following note: I worked at J.P.M. for almost 12 years, I got to be good friends with Mark and his family. He was a down to earth guy and always had a smile on his face. I am gonna miss him.

These are some pictures shared by Tony Cappello. These pictures were taken in Utah, on a snowboarding trip. First picture, Second picture. Third picture, Fourth picture, Fifth picture and Sixth picture.

Since I originally designed this web page for Mark Taber, a dear friend, I plan to continue to add pictures as I get them for this to be shared with others. When Mark and Fred flew to Utah, they bought an Oxygen system so they could take the plane up as high as they could to see how far it would go before losing some of its performance. On May 16th, they were doing touch and goes in this plane and the last touch and go took them to a far higher place than they ever imagined. I truly believe that when they touched the ground on May 16, 2002, they flew straight up into Heaven. Mark and Fred were best of friends and we will all miss them terribly but if a man could truly go doing what he loved best, they did. I find consolation in that and I hope you do as well. If you have pictures you would like to share, please email them to the address below.
