At the beginning of the story, Annie is a kind of mod/beatnik/folkie chick. but slips into the hippie culture a bit later on.
Annie's family moves from Canada to England for reasons her parents can only describe as 'family' reasons. She doesn't mind so much as she gets to see her friend again; Donovan. When Donovan introduces her to Bob Dylan's music, she develops an immediate need to meet him and talk to him about his music and poetry. When she lucks out and meets him, he lets her live with him. But, she isn't aware that Bob has a new life now, which involves not folk music, but rock and roll. . .and drugs.
