Hello! My name is Debbie Brandetsas and I am a freshman at the wonderful University of Delaware. It's a great school, even though it takes about 9 hours to drive here from my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. However, my friends here on campus have made UD my second home-- I don't know what I'm gong to do back in Charlotte without you guys!! In high school, I went to Germany for a year as an exchange student with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program. That was an awesome experience that I love to talk to people about! I stayed in the little town of Voerde, Germany (near Dortmund, north of Koeln and Duesseldorf... not a long drive to the Neatherland border) from August 2000 to June 2001 with my host family. I had such a great time there and highly advocate studying abroad if you get the opportunity.
First and foremost, I am a Christian. I have always been very active with my church and youth group (Providence UMC), however, I have already seen my faith soar to new heights here at UD. I try to go through everyday doing God's will though we all fall far from being perfect at that. I also attend regular meetings of these Christian groups here on campus: Word Of Life, Wesley Foundation, and InterVarsity. I believe that God has put me at the University of Delaware and am very excited to be an undergraduate here! :-)
Aside from studies, I am active in different groups around campus. Keeps me busy and I have a lot of fun participating in them and meeting new friends! Right now, I am involved in: the aforementioned Christian groups, the UD Colleagic Figure Skating team (UDCFSC-- 2002 Colleagic National Champions!!!), and will hopefully start working somewhere on campus. Also, I am going to spend two weeks during January in Trinidad with a group from InterVarsity. We will be doing mission work and reparing houses in a similar way as in Habitat for Humanity. I am very excited about this trip and will post updates on it when the time comes! Right now I am looking for sponsors to help fund this mission trip. I need to raise some extra money in order to attend, but I am confident that God will provide!
