Discovering Kvinnoforum:
.....In preparing for this chapter, I went
to the International Women’s Human Rights website to be linked to
the databank of organizations, as recommended in class. In doing so, I
found five organizations associated with Sweden: the Forum for Cooperation
of Women in Sweden, the National Organization for Freedom of Choice, Equality,
and Parenthood with the Child in Center, Stiftelsen Kvinnoforum, the United
Nations Association of Sweden, and the Women’s International League
for Peace and Freedom- Sweden.
.....Thinking of the number of organizations,
I thought I would be able to find the information I needed really easily.
Then, I actually started double clicking on the links and discovered that
it was not going to be so easy. First, I clicked on the link for the Forum
for Cooperation of Women in Sweden, and everything looked fine, but the
link to their website did not work. Wanting to have the option of finding
more information about the organization, I decided to check out the other
organizations. Next, I clicked on the link for the National Organization
for Freedom of Choice, Equality, and Parenthood with the Child in Center;
I read through the information, and everything looked fine, until I discovered
that the language that they use is Arabic. Not able to read Arabic, I
went to Google to check if I could translate Arabic, and they did not
have that language as an option, so I decided to move on. Subsequently,
I clicked on the link for Stiftelsen Kvinnoforum. Luckily, this time everything
worked out; the website link worked and the site was in English. Wishing
to use this organization for the purposes of this assignment, I decided
to send an email asking about more information about the organization
and if there was anything that I could do to help, and crossed my fingers,
hoping to get a response.
A Response to my Email:
.....Surprisingly, the very next day I got
a response to my email. The organization’s only staff member, Camilla
Rahman thanked me for my interest in Kvinnoforum; she explained that I
would find a lot of information about the organization through their website
and suggested that I check it out. Also, she made clear that I could find
out more information about Q Web from the same website. She clarified,
Q Web is a women’s empowerment base, a global network, and a resource
database for exchange of knowledge, experience, and ideas on women’s
health and gender issues, which is a program within Kvinnoforum; she said
if I found Q Web interesting I could become a member, which would allow
me to receive information within my own areas of interest. She went on
to say, that one way that I could help is to recommend Q Web to people
who are genuinely interested in women’s empowerment. Concluding
her email by thanking me for my support, she gave me her best regards.
