I was as surprised as anyone to hear that Korea has a punk scene. Japan's had a pretty big scene since the beginning, and there's a lot of skinheads in Malaysia, but it just seemed to pass over Korea. It didn't take much digging to find out I was wrong. Punk music is no more than ten years older, from what I understand. It's not hard to imagine: just picture a show in your own town, except that everybody's Korean. At the moment the two biggest sounds seem to be streetpunk and hardcore, although you can find skatepunk, emo, and ska if you look a little harder. Everyone seems to get along and support each other, which is damn rare where I'm from. There are a few foreigners at the shows, but usually nobody sees them again. One thing that is lacking is good guidance for English-speakers, and that is what this page will hope to do, along with Joey at Skunk Label. This page will also serve to enlighten people who will probably never come to Korea, and expose them to music they know from a foreign culture.
