Founded in 1884 by Mrs Biggs , wife of the head of the St.George Church . Miss R.A Skakleford was selected as the first headmistress . At the early stages, there were only 40 pupils . Later on , as the number of students increased , the school was transferred to the colony building next to The E & D Hotel,at Farquhar Road . Next , the school was shifted to a building in Northam Road . After the Japanese invasion (1941 - 1942), the school was re-opened in October 1945 and it consisted of 780 students and 13 teachers . Soon, the school was forced to be shifted to Francis Light School because, could not hold the amount of the increasing students. However , after a few years, the school was shifted back to the Northam building, and St.George’s Girls School was reflected as a premium school , which consisted of 1438 pupils , 100 teachers and 25 school staf . St.George’s Girls School is known well and has maintained it’s standard until today .
