Tom Byrne

Tom Byrne - The Warlord Of The Air (Instrumental Version)

Tom Byrne is a producer/performer that plays progressive/space rock. He is influenced by such bands as Camel, Yes, Van Der Graaf Generator and early Genesis. Most of the instruments played are synths/keyboards with a drum machine and samples.

The song "The Warlord Of The Air" does at times sound a bit cheesy but at other times the musicianship is amazing. What Tom does with the synth is very impressive. The song sounds like it could be from a fantasy dream sequence in a video game. The sound quality of the song is mixed very well. As with most solo performers playing every instrument, I would say that if Tom played with other live musicians it would be much better. Not to say that this is a bad song but it would be cool to see how Tom's music would sound with a live bass player and a drummer. Maybe there are other songs where Tom plays with live musicians but I haven't listened to much to his other stuff yet.

Overall I would recommend Tom Byrne's music if you are a fan of progressive bands and space rock bands. When listening to this song, I hear some Yes and Camel influences a bit for sure. Tom obviously loves what he does and it shows in the effort that he puts into his music. It is very well composed and polished and Tom definitely has the chops to make a song sound good. Give a listen to some of his songs on his website below. There are plenty of them and quite a few are lengthy compositions so sit back and enjoy Tom's efforts.
