THE BEGINNING

The Blue & White Rope Skippers is a club established in 1990 to promote the fast growing sport of rope skipping. The club, based in a small Warwickshire village called Studley, currently has 60+ members, male & female, ranging in age from six to sixty+.

It was in 1989 that a group of young athletes from U.S.A.F. Upper Heyford visited Studley Junior School to introduce the art of rope skipping. An interest was shown at that time, by a teacher from the school, Roger Smithies, & the following year, named after the school colours, the club was formed.

The story goes that the sport originated in the U.S. during the 60’s when a college football team was ordered to jump rope as part of their keep fit programme when it was too cold to train outside. One of the players got bored with hopping up & down so he started some fancy footwork. The craze soon caught on.

APPEARANCES

The Blue & Whites have been invited & appeared on many high profile national television programs such as, “ Record Breakers “, “ You Bet “, “ Active 8 ”, “ The Big Breakfast “, “ Blue Peter “, “ Childrens B.B.C Television” & more recently Energise which was broadcast in March 2000

These appearances have led on to other demonstrations around the country such as  Carnivals, Fetes & opening ceremonies.

To improve the standard of skipping throughout the U.K, the Blue & Whites travel in Europe to train with European & World champions, returning, to demonstrate & teach new techniques to schools & other skipping clubs around the country by way of workshops & displays. Many of the Blue & White club members have achieved the qualification of I.R.S.O.
