Bergen's
On July 13, 1875 the S.S. Peruvian
docked in Quebec. Among its passengers
were my ancestors. My Great Great
Great Grandparents Isaac & Helena Bergen (nee Von Niessen)
had migrated to Canada bringing
along with them Jacob (19), Gerhard (10), Helena (20)
and David (17). My Great Great
Grandparents Isaac and Justina (nee Redekop) made the trip along with them.
Along with their children [my Great grandfather] Isaac (4), David (3),
Franz (1) and Helena (7). Great Great Ohm Franz and Tante Eva (nee Neudorf)
made the jouney with them bringing their children Jacob (3), Isaac (2)
and Franz (1). It is still unknown to me which ship my Great
Great Ohm Peter and Tante Anna Bueckert (nee Bergen) came to Canada on
but records show they did not accompany her parents.
From Quebec the whole family
migrated to Blumenort, Manitoba where they homestead.
Peters'
On July 19, 1875 the S.S. Canadian
docked in Quebec City.
Aboard were my Great Great Great
Grandparents David and Katarina Peters (nee Mueller) and their surviving
children [my Great Great Grandfather] David (10), Catharina (16), Susana
(8), Helena (6), Maria (4), Eva (2) and Judith (1).
From Quebec City they migrated
to Manitoba where they homesteaded.
You can read more about the S.S. Peruvian and her Captain here. Captain Smith was a very respected man and the Allan Line was said to be well and above its competition with its treatment of her passengers. The S.S. Peruvian ran from 1864 - 1905 was rebuilt in 1874 from 2549 tons to 3,038 tons and was scrapped Italy 1905.
The S.S. Canadian ran from 1873 to 1903 when she was scapped and weighed 2,911 tons. The ship was fairly new when my ancestors travelled on it to reach Canada.
Both ships were steamers and from what I understand both had the same port of origin, Liverpool.
