+How The World Treated Jesus+

ISAIAH 52:13-53:12

"See, my servant will prosper; HE will be highly exalted. Many were amazed when they saw HIM - beaten and bloodied, so difigured one would scarcely know HE was a person. And HE will again startle many nations. Kings will stand speechless in HIS presence. For they will see what they had not previously been told about; they will understand what they had not heard about.

Who has believed our message? To whom will the LORD reveal HIS saving power? My servant grew up in the LORD'S presence like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground. There was nothing beautiful of majestic about HIS appearance, nothing to attract us to HIM. HE was despised and rejected-a man of sorrows, acquainted with the bitterest grief. We turned our backs on HIM and looked the other way when HE went by. HE was despised, and and we did not care.

Yet it was our weakness HE carried; it was our sorrows that weighed HIM down. And we thought HIS troubles were a punishment from GOD for HIS own sins! But HE was wounded and crushed for our own sins. HE was beaten that we might have peace. HE was whipped, and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left GOD's paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on HIM the guilt and sins of us all.

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet HE never said a word. HE was lead like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, HE did not open HIS mouth. From prison and trial they lead HIM away toHIS death. But who among the people realized that HE was dying for their sins-that HE was suffering their punishment? HE had done no wrong, and HE never deceived anyone. But HE was buried like a criminal; HE was put in a rich man's grave.

But it was the LORD's good plan to crush HIM and fill HIM with grief. Yet when HIS life is made an offering of sin, HE will have a multitude of children, many heirs. HE will enjoy a long life, and the LORD's plan will prosper in HIS hands. When HE sees all that is accomplished by HIS anquish, HE will be satisfied. And because of what HE has experienced, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for HE will bear all their sins. I will give HIM the honors of ONE who is mighty and great, because HE expsed HIMSELF to death. HE was counted among those who were sinners. HE bore the sins of many and interceeded for sinners."

MARK 8:34-38

"'If any of you wants to be MY follower,' he told them, "you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow ME. If you try to keep your life for yourself you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life. And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul in the process? Is anything worth more than your own soul? If a person is ashamed of ME and MY message in these adulterous and sinful days, I, the SON OF MAN, will be ashamed of that person when I return in the glory of my FATHER with the holy angels.'"

LUKE 9:23-27
JOHN 12:23-36

MATTHEW 10:24-25

"'A student is not greater than the teacher. A servant is not greater than the master. The student shares the teacher's fate. The servant shares the master's fate. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, how much more will happen to you, the members of the household!'"

JOHN 15:18-27

"'When the world hates you, remember it hated me before it hated you. The world would love you if you belonged to it, but you don't. I chose you to come out of the world, and so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? 'A servant is not greater than the master.' Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you! The people of the world will hate you because you belong to me, for they don't know GOD who sent me. They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates ME, hates MY FATHER, too. If I hadn't done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be counted guilty. But as it is, they saw all that I did and yet hated both of US-ME and MY FATHER. This has fulfilled what the Scriptures said: 'They hated ME without cause.' But I will send you the COUNSELOR-the SPIRIT of TRUTH. HE will come to you from the FATHER and will tell you about ME. And you must also tell others about ME because you have been with ME from the beginning.'"
