Local Trails

If you live near Yeovil or if you feel like a day trip you'll find it on your map in somerset, near the dorset border. It's not a fantastic riding town but we've got our fair share of street spots and shabby british downhills. Heres a few pointers on where the spots are, i'll try an do some maps too, but if you see any decent lookin riders about ask them, most of them will probably be happy enough to show you some spots.

Yeovil Trails

If you live in, or around yeovil you probably wanna know where to ride huh? well i'll tell ya what i can............ First stop is ninesprings find the kiddies play park and get across to the path on the opposite side of the river (the side furthest from the town center) now you'll see a path heading up towards a gate. FRom here there are three choices. and heres what they are............

Choice 1 is to keep going. Go through the weird gate (your bike will fit through ya don't have ta chuck it over) and follow the path until it opens out into a field. WARNING!!!! fuckin great big hill here, but if ya wanna ride your gonna have to go up it. when you reach the top you'll see a bmx slalom track, ta daaaa. There is also a very short but technical dh there if ya feel like it. Follow the bmx track down and head off towards the horse drop with the fence, it's about half way down the hill that you climbed on the right if you come from the top. anyway when you get to the drop you should see a little entrance heading into the hedge.

Choice 2: go through the gate and right away turn lett, yes it's a big hill but thats what you gotta do. theres lots of pushing but keep going up and you should see the track (hint theres a mound at the bottom of the steep bit) this trail still needs work but it's pretty good. For the full effect go right up the top and include the horse jump as a drop off.

Choice 3: ok this gets intricate, turn round 180 at the gate and go back along the path heading in the opposite direction. Go past the park and the ski centre entrance. Theres a path about the width of a car here blocked on both sides by fences. follow it. If all goes well you'll come out in a car park. Keep following the path you were on until you see a bridge, now cross the bridge. (much heaving with bikes required) and then you'll be in a field. Head left until you come to a fence and then head straight up. You will climb a very rooty section, thats trail number 1 but as soon as you get to the top you'll see a whole new load of trails all over the place. Happy Hunting!

The Hollow

This is the jewel of yeovil's hardcore riding community, probably the best jump spot in the area. Rhythm sections galore and big jumps too, transitions, tabletops it's got the lot. People travel there from all over and the riding on sundays is out of this world. Theres also some good singletrack and downhill bits for those of you who like to keep two wheels on the floor. If you think you can handle yourself and your determined, pop down yeovil cycle centre and they'll sort you out with some directions, i'd tell you myself but it'd take ages. If you are into jumping it is worth taking a day trip down here, you'll thank yourself for it. trust me.

Ham Hill

Not strictly yeovil but well worth the ride and definetly worth the drive. From the palmers/asda roundabout head down the road directly opposite palmers (theres fields and houses along it). Follow this road down and past the roundabout go straight on and keep going. Finally you'll come to some crossroads turn left onto ham hill road and follow it along theres a dip half way along with a relaxing (on a bike) downhill and a bastard of an uphill.....once at the top of this follow the road round until you reach a car park an bobs your uncle your there.

When you get there you have so many options iit's unreal.....but best bets are to just ride around an look. Theres some cool stuff here an there for playriders and some pleasant fast singletrack if you look. But if you want the real shit, head to the sheep enclosure (ask someone or look for a fenced off section) follow this right the way through and out the otherside (through a gate) theres a nice fast singletrack here and you just wanna follow this naturally until it starts goin up. Go up the trail and look for a crossroads, it's not easy to see but you'll find it if you look hard.

This is the main trail i'll try an describe it best i can. At the crossroads go left (on foot first) and if you look around you'll see a berm thats what your aiming for. Once you start riding follow the berms and switchbacks...it's pretty easy to follow. Once your out of the wood theres a sharp switchback onbto a fireroad...follow this along and you'll go through a dip, after this go left down a set of stone steps at the bottom take a sharp left through a bush (trust me) follow the path along and you'll go into some forresty singletrack stuff, theres a couple of small bridges along it but they add to the fun :) Once you've pushed back to the top, ave a look round it's not marked out but theres some nice ridin about.
