In Person Autographs

I don't have very many in person autograph experiences, but I have managed to get a few good ones. Here are the details.

Hayley Wickenheiser

Yorkton KidSport was having a lunch to raise awareness about women's hockey and Wickenheiser was the guest speaker. This was right after our hockey team had one Westerns, so we were invited as guests. The lunch was okay and before we ate I got Hayley to sign the Upper Deck card that I had of her. After lunch we went to a skate with everyone that had been at the lunch. It was pretty cool. We talked for a bit about school and hockey and stuff and before everyone left we got signed 8 x 10 pictures. It was a pretty good day and I got two of my favorite autographs out of it so I was happy.

1999 World Junior Championships

I had lots of success getting autographs at the WJHC in WInnipeg. We had great seats so when the players weren't playing they usually came and sat in one of the sections around us. There were also lots of GMs and scouts there.

Blair Betts

I was at a Team Canada game when my aunt came in from the lobby area and said that there was a guy signing autographs and he was all dressed up. I figured it was one of the coaches or something but it was Team Canada's Blair Betts, who had hurt his knee in the first game. He was talking to his family, so I waited. He noticed me waiting and then came over to me and asked if I wanted anything signed. He signed my Tournament program under his profile with a sweet looking signature. Then he told me to enjoy the game. What a nice guy!!

Nikolai Antropov

It was the gold medal game that Canada was playing in so I had pretty much quit looking for autographs. We were in the souvenir shop buying a jersey and there were all these guys in teal and yellow Nike jackets. My brother and I figures they must be the Kazakh team and we were watching for Antropov, the Leafs are my favorite team so I had been looking for him the whole tournament. He wasn't hard to spot, nobody else on the team was over 6'. He signed my program and my brother's and then told me I had a nice jacket! (I was wearing my Leafs parka) Antropov was definitely an awesome signer too.

Team Switzerland

The Swiss team had the nicest jackets, so they were really easy to pick out. They watched most of the games that they weren't playing in so there was lots of opportunities to get there autographs. I thought they were just going to be nice souvenirs, but one of the autographs I got was Luca Cereda. 6 months later, in June, the Leafs drafted him in the first round.

Cassie Campbell

Cassie Campbell, defenseman for Team Canada was watching a couple of the games and she was sitting just behind us. At one of the intermissions, I went and asked her to sign my program. She was very nice, personalizing my program and asking me how I was enjoying the tournament. Everybody seemed to be in a really good mood at this tournament.

Team Sweden

No, I didn't get the Sedin twins, I saw them a couple of times, but I was either without a pen, or boxed in my seats. Oh well, I did get a bunch of other players from the team, including NHL draft picks Christian Berglund, Henrik Tallinder, Mattias Karlin and David Ytfeldt. I got a total of 7 autographs from Team Sweden.

The WJHC were very successful in terms of autographs for me. I ended up with a total of 17 autographs.
