Information products play a central role in Internet economy. Firstly, one might argue that most of e-commerce activities try to add an information component to a traditional product, second e-commerce changes more tremendously the domains of products and services that can be delivered completely electronically (like music, news, scientific journals).

Topic 5: Lock-in and networks: the core of sustainable Internet business
Lock-in to a product or service is given when switching to a competitors product would not only require expenses with purchasing the new product, but also costs that are just due to the fact that you want to switch products. Network externalities, or positive feedback is given if the utility of a product increases just due to the fact that others consume the same product.
