Operation Ivy had a lot of energy. Started in 1987-1989, these kids rocked the punk rock world. Guitarist "Lint" and bassist Matt Freeman (both presently in Rancid), along with vocalist Jesse Michaels and and drummer Dave Mello gave punk rock a whole new idea, sound, and style.
Most people haven't heard of Mainline, that's because they're local. Hopefully they'll get picked up by a label like Hellcat Records or somethin, they deserve it. Mainline mixes pop-punk, ska, humor, and Boston-Oi! into their music that is influenced by feelings, school problems, and friends. (At top: I only know that Drew is on the far right, sorry)
Epitaph Records has taken a major role in punk rock. It is the label to many bands, such as: Bad Religion, The Bouncing Souls, The Descendents, H2O, Millencolin, NOFX, The Offspring, Pennywise, Pulley, Rancid, Ten Foot Pole, The VooDoo Glow Skulls, and many, many more. Another new record label, Hellcat Records (headed by Brett Gurewitz and Tim Armstrong [frontman of Rancid]), has brought up many small bands, including The Dropkick Murphys and The Swingin' Utters.
