"Good things come to those who wait."---Greldum Drobe, captain of the White Rhino's military corps, addressing his young apprentice.

Getting to Forever Winter Vale

Getting to Forever Winter Vale is a difficult, and dangerous task. Very few people even know of Forever Winter Vale which makes things even more difficult in terms of finding a guide. Even if one could find a guide, they would have a hard time trying to persuade them to lead them to the mysterious valley which lies deep within the treacherous Caucavic Mountains. Here is an excerpt taken from An Explorer’s Guide to Barsaive compiled by the Royal Librarians Hall of Records in Throal.

Steep cliffs, deep valleys, and plunging gullies are said to hide all manner of creatures and even horrors that somehow manage to survive among the barren rocks. The tree line ends only 1,500 feet above the base of the mountains; beyond tht point, the terrain is unstable and prone to rock slides and quakes.

This is testament to anyone wishing to seek out Forever Winter Vale that such an endoverment would not be an easy one to undertake. With all of this, a traveler would also have to deal with the savage barbarians that live in caverns at the base of the mountains. These barbarians are not very kind to unwelcome guests. Hanging on large wooden contraptions are the heads of their hapless visitors who happened to stumble into their territory. To make matters worse, it is believed that deep within their cavern homes, hides the entrance tunnel to Forever Winter Vale.

It is a sure bet that the easiest way to get to Forever Winter Vale is through the cavern homes of the savages found at the base of the Caucavic’s. Other alternatives are rare and mean certain death. One who decide to travel by foot over the mountains would have a better chance of finding a needle in a hay stack. The way is dangerous and those who are ill equipped would surely die of frost-bite or hypothermia within the first few days. One has to be wary of rock slides and earthquakes as well. The valley walls are steep and treacherous and if one makes it safely to a valley floor they must be on constant alert for dangerous creatures as well as horrors. As stated before, there is little hope that one would find Forever Winter Vale this way. The other alternative to those who wish not to go by foot or through the caverns can try and find an airship. Any sane captain would not dare make such a venture and, again, hopes of finding the valley are slim. The best chance a traveler would have is to try and find their way through the cavern system that lie within the mountains. This is a dangerous endoverment as much as any other but it has the largest opportunity for one to find Forever Winter Vale. It is said that when one comes to a part in the cavern that is made completely of ice they can find a river. By following the river, they will come out of the glacier that sits at one end of the valley.
