This variety is considered to be one of the classic communtiy fish. It is one of the first fish that a lot of people keep due to its colourful appearance and placid nature. This fish can be kept at low temperatures and even in an unheated tank, provided it has been acclimatised to these cooler conditions slowly (otherwise stress and disease can be caused). A lot of people prefer to keep thee fish in cooler conditions as their colours are much more vibrant.
These fish are very easy to sex - males have a gonopodium and the ladies have a grvid spot.
