Minor Threat

Minor Threat is my favorite band, they have been around for a long time and have a style of punk like no other. Minor Threat has realeased 4 Ep's (Filler, In My Eyes, Out Of Step, 2 7's and a 12, and Salad Days) and all of there works are available on the discography. Also they have a live video that is very popular of a Washington D.C. show on 6/23/83. Minor Threat was from the D.C. area and was one of the most inspiring bands of our time. Not only have they inspiried me to make music, they have inspired me personally, with such songs as "Stepping Stone" they tell people that you can't let others use you. They don't say these things politely, it is hardcore all out yelling, this music just makes you wanna mosh in your living room. Anyways, Minor Threat has inspired me and millions more with a song called "Straight Edge"

Straight Edge

I'm a person just like you

But I've got better things to do

Then sit around and fuck my head

Hang out with the living dead

Snort white shit up my nose

Pass out at the shows

I don't even think about speed

Thats something I just don't need

I've got the straightedge

I'm a person just like you

But I've got better things to do

Then sit around and smoke dope

'Cause I know that I can cope

Laugh at the thought of eating ludes

Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue

Always gonna keep in touch

Never want to use a crutch

I've got the straightedge

These few short anti-drug lyrics sparked a punk movement known as Straight Edge, these hardcore punks were still the same as everyone else, they weren't hippies, but they didn't do any drugs or drink or have any promiscuous sex. They are symbolized with X's on the hands.

Minor Threat was really formed in the days when lead singer Ian Mackay went to High School, under the name the Teen Idles, this band broke up after a few years together and Ian Mackay sought new members to form Minor Threat. After about 13 years Minor Threat broke up. Ian Mackay went on to form Egghunt with his guitarist, but that project was shortlived, and they all parted ways. Finally Ian went on to form Fugazi which is still together today, they are a good band but could never compare to Minor Threat. Minor Threat is the best brand of hardcore ever, they are my personal favorite band, and there songs are about the wrongdoings of society today and back in the 70's and 80's. Minor Threat is definately the best punk band ever.
