Tyler lives in Marquette. He grew up in Marquette (Well, for the most part...) He adapted to Marquette.
Which is more than most other people can say.
Through his upbringing (and evironment. Nature v. Nuture.) Tyler has become a very warm hearted, caring individual, if only entirely insane at the same time. This is perhaps because he has tried to be warm hearted and caring and a human being at the same time. This is, of course, not a logical mix, so of course he's a little cuckoo.
He is, of course, the personification of the author of this comic, as well as a sort of primary character As such, her tends to be the center of a number of things that are going on around the campus. Or at least, that's how it will seem for the most part.

Erica Smith comes from ___, which is down state. Of course, this produces some level of discomfort for suddenly being taken from the civilized, developed world and being thrust into the harsh wild of the UP.
She played in many percussion positions for her High School's band, and was quite talented at all of them. She even spent some time on the cymbals, which already qualifies her as better-suited to the task than Tyler. ("You mean, you know how to tie these knots?")

Catherine Rich hails from the Land's Beyond (Wisconsin onwards), and thus has little idea about the varied nature of Marquette. Or NMU. Especially NMU.
Catherine is on the whole a very mean person; she constantly belittles others around her for no reason other than to make herself feel better. However, the reason for this is no understood. She has trouble fitting in many places, mainly because of her flippant, 'devil may care' attitude, and in large part thanks to her natural talent of assuming everything sucks.
Originally coming from the Piccolos, she seems to have had it set in her mind that their part was too easy, and thus when Dr. Strain will ask for volunteers in the second Arc, she readily accepts the challange.
