Necia Piper Tubbs, 88, of 73 Walnut St., Fernville, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Mahoning Township. Prior to moving to Walnut Street, she resided at Bloomsburg Towers for 11 years. She had been a resident of Fernville most of her life.
She was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Rupert, the daughter of the late Wilfred C. and Bertha (Yocum) Piper. She attended the Rupert one-room school and was a 1936 graduate of the former Scott High School. Before her retirement in 1998, Necia was employed as a secretary at the former Magee Carpet Company; secretary in local CPA firms; owned a craft supply store in Bloomsburg for 10 years; worked in the Continuing Education Department at Bloomsburg University; and was a secretary at Bloomsburg High School and Middle School. Necia worked until she was 80 years old. She also had a stand at the Bloomsburg Fair for 25 years.
She was a life member of Bloomsburg Christian Church, formerly First Church of Christ. Necia was a former Sunday School teacher and crafts director for VBS. Recently, she enjoyed driving through the countryside to attend Greenwood Christian Church.
Necia was preceded in death by her husband, J. Dean Tubbs, on July 4, 1990; two brothers: Grant and William Piper; and a nephew.
She is survived by a daughter, Alana A. Tubbs, Fernville; and a son, John Dean Tubbs II, Snoqualmie, Wash.; four nieces; and a sister in-law.
Memorial services will be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
