Kressler-In Espy, Jan. 28, 1879; Calvin H. Kressler aged 2y, 8m, 19d.
Calvin R. Kressler has strayed in the pervert and foolish path and as a result to his misdoings he is now in jail at Sunbury. It appears that he has been acting the roll of a Judas Iscariot for some time past, but not until Monday morning was his treachery discovered. On the night before he and Miss Mary Walters, a girl of eighteen years, walked into Hotel Zerbe at Sunbury and asked for a room. After registering as man and wife they were given a room. The next morning Mr. Zerbe asked Kressler if they were married and he said no. The two evidently anticipating trouble hurried out of the hotel but the proprietor made use of the telephone and securing an officer had them arrested. It was since developed that Kressler had been having considerable trouble at home and that his wife had sworn out a warrant for his arrest Saturday night but he could not be found. Kressler’s friends are dumbfounded at his conduct. Until very lately he had been looked upon as a man of correct habits but drink is supposed to have led to his downfall.
On Saturday last, in Bloom township a child of Mr. George Kressler
John Kressler, one of Columbia County’s oldest and most respected citizens, passed from life to death at 8 o’clock on Thursday evening of last week, at his residence in Scott township. He was buried in Rosemont Cemetery on Sunday. Rev. Alleman, a former pastor was called to assist in preaching the funeral sermon and died the occasion justice. Mr. Kressler was a kind husband, father and good neighbor. He bore patiently the ills of life, having been sick for about two years, the greater portion of the time being confined to the house. The funeral was largely attended. The deceased was born on the farm where he died, then owned by his father. He learned the trade of boat building and followed it for about 18 years with good success in Espy. Thirty-five years ago he purchased the farm of his father and moved on it and continued to reside there up to his death. He was a model farmer and as industrious a man as the sun ever shone upon, a member of the Lutheran church for 50 years and a liberal contributor in time and money toward building the Lutheran church at Espy and the one at Bloomsburg. He was aged 79 years, 7 months and 26 days. A widow, two sons and two daughters survive him.
In Espytown, on Friday, the 24th instant, Mr. Lemuel Kressler, aged 25 y’rs, 5mos and 2 days.
The subject of the above notice was a very promising young man; who possessed many excellent qualities ,and was daily giving evidence of being a useful man in the community. He was comparatively young, although his experience in the business circle was large, having been engaged in various heavy and useful operations. He was intelligent, affable and courteous in his manners, and enjoyed the confidence of a widespread circle of friends.
The deceased had a very severe attack of influenza when inflammation of the stomach and bowels ensued which resulted in death. He was buried in the German Reform grave yard at this place, last Sabbath, by the honors of Masonry, of which ancient and honorable order he was a worthy member.
Again is the old adage more truly verified that “Verily in the midst of life we are in death.”
On Saturday the funeral services of Mrs. Martha J. Kressler, were held at Wesley Chapel, at Talmar, with interment in the cemetery adjoining the church. The deceased was found dead in bed at the home of her sister, Mrs. Robibns, at Masten, Pa. with whom she has been residing. The deceased was aged 52 years the 8th of July, 1920, and is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Frank Sweeney, of Millville; W. P. Kressler, of Motts; Mrs. Lundy Yorks, Riverside; Mrs. Elwood Hartman, of ?(can’t read); Mrs. John Hidler of Jackson ?, Mrs. J.C. Johnson, of Millville and Mrs. Fred Robbins of Masten.

Samuel Kressler, brother of our townsman Casper Kressler, died at Wilkesbarre on the 28th ult. Aged nearly ninety one years. He resided in Espy for many years, and until recently, was a very active man for one of his age. The burial took place in Afton Cemetery last Saturday.
