On the 17th inst. in Braircreek, of the fever, Elijah Hagenbuch, an estimable and very worthy young man in the 25th year of his age. At his residence in Bloom township, on the 14th of November, Mr. John Bright, age 74 years 5days.

Mr. J.R. Handwork, of Afton, and familiarly known to many of our citizens was found burned to a crisp on a lime kiln at that place on Tuesday morning. It appears that on the previous night he had been indulging too freely in liquor, and went to this kiln to sleep, while in this condition rolled upon the fire. He was an industrious hard working man, about forty-five years of age and unmarried.

Mrs. Aaron W. Hess died at her home in Mifflinville on Sunday after a protracted illness, aged seventy-three years. She had suffered much form paralysis and of late had been almost helpless. She was an earnest Christian lady, and a consistent member of the Lutheran church.
She leaves to survive her a husband and four children, namely: Mrs. A.W. Snyder and H.W. Hess, of Mifflinville and Dr. M.J. Hess and Geo. W. Hess of Bloomsburg.
The funeral took place yesterday and was largely attended.

Joshua B. Hess, of Central, died last Sunday night. He has been ill for several years. He was a good citizen and his loss will be keenly felt

Josiah Hess, a prominent citizen and farmer of Huntington Valley, died Sunday Dec. 22 near Register of cancer of the stomach, aged 62 years. Mr. Hess had lived in Huntington Valley all his days where he was recognized and respected for his exalted qualities as a man. He was one of the leading members of the M.E. Church and was active in promoting the work of the denomination. His five sons and wife survive. The funeral was held Thursday morning at Register, burial in Dodson Chapel.

New Columbus lost a long time and highly esteemed resident early Sunday morning when Nathan Hess passed away in the seventy-eighth year of his age. Death was due to a paralytic stroke, together with old age. A wife and two daughters, Mrs. Rev. Boone, of Black Creek and Mrs. Zeb Stevens of New Columbus survive, together with a sister, Mrs. Polly Brader of Salem, Luzerne County and two brothers, Aaron Hess of Mifflinville and Reuben Hess, residing on West Third Street, this town. The funeral occurred from the family residence yesterday and interment was made in the cemetery at New Columbus.

The funeral of Dr. Martin E. Hessmann of Dushore was held last Thursday. The deceased was 88 years of age and had practiced in Sullivan county since 1871. He was beloved by all who knew him, as he answered all calls, day or night.

Mrs. Ella Mourey Hoffman, wife of Fred Hoffman, died at their home in Berwick on Saturday evening last after a five weeks illness with nephritis. Deceased was a daughter of County Treasurer John Mourey, Roaringcreek township, and would have been 30 years of age on Oct. 14th next. Her husband is a son of Jacob Hoffman, of the same township. They grew up to man and womanhood in this valley and none possessed to a higher degree the respect and good will of our people.
Six years ago next July they were married and since then have made their home at Berwick. Mrs. Hoffman united with the First Presbyterian church and soon gained the love and respect of that community. She was prominent in church work and in the ladies’ auxiliary of the Y.W.C.A. and the Civic club. The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved husband, parents, brothers and sisters. Besides her husband and parents she is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. H.W. Angle, Espy; Mrs. Jerry Kunkle, Kulp;; Michael, of Philadelphia and Soloman, of Cumberland, Md.
The funeral took place on Tuesday at one p.m. Rev. E.A. Loux, the Presbyterian pastor, officiating, interment at Almedia.
