It is with deep and profound regret that we announce the death of Joshua Hugh Allen, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Allen, residing on North Iron street, which occurred five minutes before seven o’clock Sunday morning, thus removing from our midst a most promising and estimable young life just as it was budding into useful manhood.
Deceased had been a student at State College for the past four years, where he was engaged in taking a course in mechanical engineering. Being unusually bright, he occupied an enviable position in his classes and had he lived would have graduated from that institution in June.
Jay, as he was more familiarly known to his friends, possessed many sterling qualities not usually found in one of his years and his many noble traits endeared him to the hearts of all those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.
His illness dates from November 5th last when he was forced to leave college on that account and since which time there has been no improvement in his health, the dread disease, diabetes, having so thoroughly fastened itself upon his constitution that he finally succumbed to its ravages at the hour above stated.
Deceased was aged nineteen years, ten months and twenty-six days. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the parents in their sad bereavement over the great loss they have sustained, and the many young friends of the deceased feel keenly the loss of a companion who was very dear to them.
Funeral services will be conducted from the residence of Mrs. Joshua Fetterman on Main street at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon. A delegation of students from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, composed of member of the Senior class at State College, of which deceased was a member, will arrive here tomorrow and will attend the funeral in a body. The pall bearers will be selected from among their number. A number of students from the High School will also attend in a body as a last mark of respect. There will be no carriages. Rev. Dr. Hemingway will conduct the services assisted by Rev. M.E. McLinn. Interment in Rosemont Cemetery.

A Syrian, of West Berwick, Joe Alley by name, died a frightful death at that place Tues. evening from hydrophobia.
The man was bitten by a dog last summer, but the wound appeared to heal and all was thought to be well. Some time ago however, Alley was taken ill with typhoid pneumonia, and the other day the symptoms of hydrophobia began to develop and the man became so violent that great difficulty was found in restraining him from doing damage.
He had to be held in bed and died Tuesday evening.
He was but 19 years old and the only relative in this country is a cousin, M. Niodack, at West Berwick.
