Well, I do have something to report now. I went and got a tattoo. My second, actually, but the first one I got about 14 years ago. I never really figured I’d get another one, but it felt like something I should do. I decided that I wanted to do it after I got here, but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted. I knew I wanted something written in Hangul (Korean script), so I had the people at the studio help me figure out what to get. They actually did an awesome job. We found a short poem, and after an explanation and figuring out the emotion behind it, I decided it was exactly what I wanted…just a bit longer than I expected. I told them a little about my past and gave them an idea of what I was looking for, which was something about surviving and starting over, and this is what they came up with (loose translation):

잎세 봄을 세상에 주고
One leaf gives all to the world in Spring

가슴으로 끼는 생명의 장엄함이여
Feeling the magnificence of life

다시 겨울 땅을 떨치고
Again breaks up the frozen ground after a long winter

부활하는 생명의 소중한 약속이여
The treasured promise of life's revival

I love it. I may have to memorize it because it’s not exactly easy to see since it’s on my back and I may get some questions about it later.

Well, I’m spending the rest of my weekend writing papers and posting stuff on the Internet. Not much else to say right now. I did get some more souvenirs and I did get the box of stuff sent off to my dad earlier in the week. Hopefully it arrives safely. I’d hate to have my vases broken before I have a chance to see them in my house…and break them myself the next time I move.
