STANLEY CUP FUNNIEST MOMENTS

THE SNOW-COVERED STANLEY CUP
In 1905, the Ottawa Silver Screen after celebrating their victory, returned to Ottawa. While crossing the frozen Rideau Canal, one of the player’s mighty kick sent the Stanley Cup flying into the Canal. Till the next day the players were ignorant of the fact that the Cup was missing. But as soon they realized that the Cup was missing the players immediately rushed to the Canal to recover the snow-covered trophy.

STANLEY CUP AS SUPPORT

In 1961, during a playoff game between the Blackhawks and the Canadiens in Chicago, a fan from Montreal, Ken Wilander, seeing that his team was on the verge of elimination, he rushed into the corridor of Chicago Stadium and cracked the glass case holding the Cup. The very next day while his act was being questioned, he told the judge that he wanted to bring the Cup back to Montreal.

THE CUP’S JOURNEY TO THURSO WITH CANADIENS GUY LAFLEUR
In 1979, the Canadiens won their fourth consecutive Stanley Cup Championship. Guy Lafleur was so overjoyed that he availed the opportunity and hid the trophy in the trunk of his car while the celebrations were going on. He took the trophy to his hometown, Thurso.  He invited many people at his home to admire the glory of the Cup. But after sometime to his utter disgust he spotted his son Martin filling the trophy up with water with the garden hose. Lafleur decided to return the Cup to the team. In Montreal, he gave his organization some agitated moments. 

THE CUP TAKES he Cup Takes a Dip
After the Pittsburgh victory in 1992, the players were invited to a party at Mario Lemieux’s place. One of the team members put the trophy on his shoulder, climbed up an embankment, hoisted it up in the air and threw it into the pool. Luckily, it landed in the water without hitting the cement edge.

THE FORGOTTEN CUP
The Montreal Canadiens after winning the 1924 Stanley Cup to celebrate their victory went out for a hunt. On the way to their celebrations, they stopped to fix a punctured tire.  While doing so, unintentionally they put the Cup down on the side of the road and few moments later after fixing the tire once again set off to their journey oblivion of the trophy. When they realized what has happened they turned back and fetched the Cup from the side of the road where they had left it.

THE MISSING RING
In 1970, thieves broke in to the Hockey Hall of Fame and stole the original ring from the Cup. The names of the first champions were engraved on it. The thieves were never caught, but the ring was found, seven years later, in a parking lot in Toronto.
