Gorean Serve

"Now take the goblet, " he said, " and hold the metal against your body, pushing inward." I took the goblet and held it, tightly, to my body. Iheld the round, heavy metal against me, below my brassiere. "Lower," he said, "against your belly." I then held the goblet lower. "Press it more inward, " he said. I did so. I can still feel the cold metal against me, firmly, partly against the silk of my undergarment, partly against my belly. "Now," said he, "lift the goblet to your lips and kiss it lingeringly, then proffer it to me, arms extended, head down."

~Fighting Slave of Gor, page 19~

One of the most common activities that goes on in the Gorean channels is the serving of the Freepersons.

This is where the slaves get to "strut their stuff "and where they can catch the eye of a Freeperson. There are many different serves as you can see as you observe a channel but all serves have some basic elements in them. Use these basic elements to make your serve become your signature. Do not copy someone else's serve, create one that reflects you. Serve is important because it is one of the most common action of a slave girl (or boy) in the public eye. It is the time for the slave to shine, to woo the Masters and show off a girl's skill and devotion to the serve. It is also a time for a slave girl to make her Master proud of her.
There is nothing sweeter than one Master complimenting another Master on the actions of his slave.

Steps to a Serving Ceremony

Acknowledge that you heard and understood the order, ie. "Yes, Master". This is to show the Free Person served that you are starting and not to worry that you are not doing as told. Also, if paga or kalana is wanted, you may ask how they like it.. cold or warm and if in a goblet or footed bowl.

1. Going to the serving area
This is when you rise from wherever you are and walk or crawl to serving area. Many taverns have a website with a lay out of the tavern/bath house/oasis. It would help to know the layout of the place you are serving in because you could come up with very different beginnings to a serve, esp. if you are outside or inside inside. The first pose will set the tone of the serve as will as get the attention of those in the room. Adding particulars about one's body movement and room bring your serve alive. Describe in detail how you look as you move to the servery, anything you can think of, how the air feels, how you look, your own feelings, but not too wordy, remember the person waiting for food and/or drink.

2. Choosing/getting a drinking vessel

Describe entering the servery and the search for the "vessel" used. In Gor, there are bowls for paga, kalda, sa-tarna paga, sul paga, goblets for ka-la-na, sometimes paga, ale, mulleand ka-la-na, Ta-wine, Turian wine, cups for blackwine and bazi tea; also horns and tankards are used for ale and mead.Once you decide on the drinking vessel (goblet, bowl, or mug), you need to get it from the shelves. This is the time to show off a bit of yourself - either as blatant or subtle as you wish. Add eye-catching text to bring attention to the serve. Usually that vessel is up high or down low to add an effort to getting it.

3. Cleaning the vessel
Check the vessel for flaws, a slaves life is worth nothing, the Mistresses/Masters is, all harm must be kept from them, so a slave must check the vessel for any flaws which may bring Them harm. Check carefully the rim, and unless white silk, make it sensual and sexual.. if white silk can make it sexual ONLY if your own Mistress/Master allows it. Describe polishing the vessel, using whatever you wish keeping in mind individual Master/Mistresses preferences as some dislike using your hair; bring it to a shine and describe how you do it and what the vessel looks like as it shines. Cleaning the vessel shows that you care about getting the best for the Master you are serving. You can clean vessels with the repcloth or hem of your silks - examining it for imperfections.

4. Getting/Preparing the drink
Describe getting the drink in detail. Remember, most camps and taverns do not store it in botas. Botas are used for travel. Most liquids are kept in bottles or casks. This is one of the more intricate steps to a serve. Many of the drinks have their particular way of being prepared.Describe the pouring of the drink into the vessel, make it yours not someone elses way of doing it, make it special to you and you only, and all will remember it as your particular serve. Make it sensual, and detailed.

5. Returning to the Freeperson
Describe returning in detail again, your feelings, how you look, what you look at, etc. Returning to the Master/Mistress is also a time to show off and to focus the attention on you and the Master you serve. This alerts the Master/Mistress that he/she is now coming to the center of your attention.

6. Kneeling position/posture
A pleasure slave kneels in nadu before the Master, displaying herself. She is openly seductive, sensual and submissive to the Master she is serving. Before Mistress slave kneels in Tower nadu with thighs pressed together.

7. Actual serve
There are two parts to the actual serve - the physical motion and a spoken blessing. In the physical motion - Place the vessel near your belly or heart when waiting, the beats of the heart symbolizes a slaves intense desire to serve...or their "slave belly". *note* some places do not allow the slave to touch her lips where a Master/Mistress lips will touch..this is rare on irc but common in the books.. if so.. just kiss the side of the vessel .Present the drink to the Master/Mistress, always have eyes lowered, again making it unique. In giving the drink, say something about the drink and your serve. If a girl is redsilk, often she brings the vessel to her slave's heat (sex) first and then to the heart - however, if you mention your heat in a serve - be prepared to use it! It is a clear sign to all that you are a slave available for the Master's use. White silk or restricted slaves mention their heat in a serve -only- to their Master. The actual serve may take a couple of poses. Wait for the Person to take the drink, then wait to be dismissed. If not dismissed, you may ask if there is anything else needed to remind the Person to release you in some places this is considered rude. Know the customs of where you serve. Never leave without being dismissed.

Helpful tips for creating a Gorean serve

1. Always acknowledge the Freeperson's command for service. That way you can take your time in typing out the first pose
2. Do not use pop-ups.
3. Tailor the serve to the Master/Misteress and the place - if you are in a relaxed atmosphere, a playful serve is fine but a girl would not suggest playing around if you are in a strict channel or if there is a lot of tension in
the air. Also, the Master's/Mistress's preference is to held paramount - if he wishes short poses for the getting of the drink and a long one for the serve... that is the way you do it.
4. If need be - whisper to the Master/Mistress (asking permission first) to get his/her particular likes and dislikes. Many Personshave very particular expectations in the serving of their drinks.
5. Add details like wrinkling your nose at the smell of the paga or shivering at the cold goblet of the kalana touches your skin. Make your own trade mark. Details make the serve more interesting... and that helps you stand out.
6. In the serving of food and preparing it...never say you use a blade to cut anything - slaves are forbidden to touch weapons. You always use a cutting stone.
7. When serving food, always mention arranging it in a pleasant manner to suit the taste of the one you serve. Also, in serving the plate of food, always kiss the rim of it before you offer.
