WHAT IS SHAOLIN DO?

Shaolin Do is the descendent art from the Shaolin temples in China. The Shaolin temples were famous for housing the largest collection of martial arts systems in the world. While not all of these styles were developed in the temples, it is certain that these styles were studied, perfected, and pushed to their limits while in the temples?possession.

The Shaolin monks were the most feared fighters in the world, but even more famous than their fighting skill was their love of life. The Shaolin martial arts originated as a means to keep the monks fit and active even into old age. They would train for eight to twelve hours a day! This rigorous training regimen, combined with meditation and chi kung training, kept the monks average life expectancy somewhere around 120 years old. The monks had unlocked the secret to immortality!

LIVE LONGER...LIVE STRONGER

What was the monks' secret? While most people in our society are retiring, the monks were just hitting their primes. The secret is to cultivate an active body and an active mind. People have preached this for years, and Shaolin Do has the key. By training in the styles of the old monks we develop physically fit bodies. In Shaolin Do there are over 900 different forms to be practiced, covering over 50 empty hand styles and 30 weapon systems. This allows students to constantly learn and be challenged by new things. The result is an extremely active mind.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Students at Shaolin Do learn a broad variety of the material that was taught at the Shaolin temples. The entire spectrum of fighting (grappling, long distance, close quarters, weapons, etc.) is represented in that curriculum. By the time the student reaches black belt in Shaolin Do, he will have learned 21 long forms covering 7 empty hand systems and 6 weapon systems. This allows for a rich background of techniques and styles to call upon.

In the FIRST YEAR ALONE you will learn:

* FORMS FROM- tiger, bird, mantis, white crane, china hand

* WEAPONS- staff, short stick, nunchakus, broadsword, dagger

* SPARRING- basic one on one, two on one, knife defenses, basic weapon sparring, grappling, push hands

* SELF-DEFENSE- over 100 different applications for REAL LIFE situations (not including applications to be found in forms)

* OTHER TRAINING- meditation, iron body training, iron palm & shin training, pressure point applications, chin na (joint locks)

* SEMINARS- throughout the year, informative seminars are offered to teach new forms, training techniques, conditioning exercises, and various other aspects of our system. They are great ways to help jump-start your training to new levels!

In the final test of a martial art, one must look at the effectiveness of the system. One needs look no further than our forms to understand how truly effective Shaolin Do really can be. In the moves you will find eye gouges, arm breaks, knee breaks, neck breaks, pressure point strikes, and moves designed to develop the power of the practitioner.
